O Muslims: Preserve the History of Imam Hasan and Imam Hussein
There comes a time in every civilization when it must decide whether it will preserve its history honestly or allow it to be rewritten by those who inherit power. I believe we have arrived at that moment. This is not simply a discussion about the past. It is a discussion about the future of the Muslim Ummah and the lessons we choose to carry forward. If we lose the truth of our own history, then we lose the ability to recognize the same patterns when they appear again.
This is why I ask you not to look at the lives of Imam Hasan and Imam Hussein through the lens of tragedy alone. Their story is not merely about grief. It is not merely about tears. It is about leadership, accountability, justice, sacrifice, and the terrible consequences that follow when power ceases to answer to principle. If we reduce Karbala to emotion, we risk overlooking the very lessons that made it one of the defining moments in Islamic history.
Long before Karbala, countless companions sacrificed everything to build this Ummah. They stood at Badr, at Uhud, at Khandaq, and in the campaigns that followed. They gave their lives so that Islam would become more than a private faith. They helped build a civilization, a political order, and a system that demanded accountability from those entrusted with authority. Their blood was not spilled merely to expand territory. It was spilled so that justice could have a home among people.
That is why I find it difficult when anyone suggests that we should avoid studying Imam Hasan and Imam Hussein, or that we should soften what happened, or quietly move past it. Every nation preserves the moments that shaped its character. Every civilization protects the memory of those who defended its highest principles. Why should the Muslim Ummah be different? Why should we be afraid to preserve the history of our own heroes exactly as it unfolded?
Let us not add sugar where history requires honesty. Let us not add spice where truth already speaks for itself. We do not honor the Prophet's family by exaggeration, nor do we honor them by silence. We honor them by telling their story faithfully, with its depth, its pain, its courage, and its enduring lessons. History deserves neither embellishment nor erasure. It deserves integrity.
Islam built a political tradition that understood accountability before God. Abu Bakr understood it. Umar ibn al-Khattab understood it. Uthman understood it. Ali understood it. Leadership was never meant to exist beyond moral responsibility. It was always expected to answer to truth before it answered to power. That principle is part of the inheritance we have received, and it deserves to be remembered alongside the sacrifices that preserved it.
Today we face a new challenge. Governments shape history. Institutions shape history. Increasingly, artificial intelligence will also shape history. Future generations may encounter their past not through books or teachers, but through digital systems that summarize, simplify, and sometimes distort. If we do not preserve our history carefully, others may eventually tell it for us. That responsibility cannot simply be delegated. It belongs to us.
This is why we are building these offices. They are not monuments to the past. They are institutions for the future. They are places where the history of Imam Hasan and Imam Hussein can be preserved with honesty, scholarship, dignity, and depth. They exist so that future generations may study these events with understanding rather than slogans, with wisdom rather than political convenience, and with reverence rather than distortion.
The House of Wisdom is not simply a building. It is a commitment. A commitment that we will preserve our history without fear. A commitment that we will not allow those who dislike the family of the Prophet ﷺ to define their legacy. A commitment that we will carry these lessons into the age of artificial intelligence with the same seriousness that earlier generations carried them through ink, parchment, and memory.
I ask you to help build this work. Help preserve this trust. Help establish institutions that protect the story as it was lived and remembered. Let us pass forward not only the names of Imam Hasan and Imam Hussein, but also the principles they defended, so that those who come after us inherit truth instead of confusion, wisdom instead of forgetfulness, and courage instead of silence.

The Continuation of Karbala
Karbala did not end on the battlefield.
It continued through Sayyida Zainab.
She entered the court of the tyrant with no army, no wealth, and no throne. Yet she possessed something stronger than all of them: the truth. She exposed the lie, preserved the narrative, and ensured that Karbala would never disappear beneath politics or fear.
Her message was timeless:
If the sword defends the truth on the battlefield, the tongue defends it in the courtroom.
That lesson belongs to every generation.
Today the battlefield has changed. Power is exercised not only through armies and governments, but through media, institutions, corporations, and increasingly through artificial intelligence. The temptation remains the same: soften history, remove accountability, and reshape public memory until uncomfortable truths disappear.
Some would rather reduce Karbala to emotion than confront its political lessons. Others would rather remember the tears than the principles. But if we preserve only the suffering and forget the meaning, then we have not preserved Karbala at all.
This is why we are building the Offices of Imam Hasan and Imam Hussein. They are not monuments to the past; they are institutions for the future. Their purpose is simple: to preserve this history honestly and ensure that future generations inherit its lessons without distortion.

Teach the constitutional and moral lessons of Islamic leadership.
Ensure that governments, institutions, and AI cannot rewrite this history.
Build the Offices of Imam Hasan and Imam Hussein as part of the modern House of Wisdom.
This is not about living in the past.
It is about carrying forward the wisdom that generations before us purchased with sacrifice.
The House of Wisdom begins by preserving the truth.
And the truth will not be buried again.
