What is Ihsan?
The root of the word Ihsan is حَسَنَ (Ḥ-S-N), meaning goodness, beauty, and perfection. It is used in the Qur'an in different forms, all pointing to exceeding expectations, excelling in faith, and acting with the utmost sincerity and excellence.

Allah explicitly states that life and death were created as a test to see who will excel in their deeds—not just who will pass.
📖 Surah Al-Mulk (67:2)
> ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًۭا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفُورُ
"He who created death and life to test you—which of you is best in deeds; and He is the Almighty, the Forgiving."

The Qur'an emphasizes Ihsan in worship, meaning worshiping Allah with deep sincerity, awareness, and devotion.
📖 Surah An-Nahl (16:128)
> إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوا۟ وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مُّحْسِنُونَ
"Indeed, Allah is with those who have Taqwa and those who practice Ihsan."

The Qur'an repeatedly instructs kindness (Ihsan) towards people, particularly parents, family, and society.
📖 Surah Al-Baqarah (2:83)
> وَبِالْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَٰنًا
"...and be excellent to your parents..."
📖 Surah Al-Isra (17:23)
> وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا۟ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَٰنًا
"Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and be excellent to your parents..."

Ihsan towards parents is commanded immediately after Tawhid (worshiping Allah alone), showing its importance.
Being good to parents isn’t enough—Allah commands the very best treatment.
📖 Surah Al-Qasas (28:77)
> وَأَحْسِن كَمَآ أَحْسَنَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ
"And do Ihsan (excellence) as Allah has done Ihsan to you."

📖 Surah Al-A’raf (7:56)
> إِنَّ رَحْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ قَرِيبٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
"Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the Muhsinin (those who practice Ihsan)."
📖 Surah Az-Zumar (39:34)
> لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
"For them is whatever they wish with their Lord. That is the reward of the Muhsinin (people of Ihsan)."

📖 Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:13)
> فَٱعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَٱصْفَحْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
"So pardon them and overlook [their misdeeds]. Indeed, Allah loves the doers of Ihsan."

رَسُولُهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
"Say: Work! For Allah will see your deeds, and His Messenger, and the believers."
