A sitting president, in a nation that calls itself democratic, has refused to let the people speak. He has declared that elections would "split" and "destroy" the country. He has abandoned the very principle of democratic governance.
And Europe applauded him.
They applauded the suspension of democracy. They applauded the cancellation of elections. They applauded the consolidation of power in one man's hands.
What kind of peace do they seek?
Not a democratic peace. Not a just peace. Not a negotiated peace.
A peace on their terms—or no peace at all.
