Ideas Are the Beginning — and the Community Should Help Build What Comes Next
Last night, I made an announcement welcoming the world into my community.
But I want to explain what I mean by community, because I am not interested in building another place where people simply post updates, collect followers, argue, and disappear.
My website is about ideas.
Ideas about AI.
Ideas about websites.
Ideas about journalism.
Ideas about money.
Ideas about education.
Ideas about community.
Ideas about user interfaces.
Ideas about how humans and AI should work together.
Most importantly, it is a place where a person can look at something that is not working very well and simply say:
I have an idea. We can make this better.
That is what this community update is about.
Dear GPT Team: I Have an Idea
This morning, I opened the ChatGPT mobile application and looked at the sidebar.
I saw:
Images.
Library.
Projects.
Remote.
Scheduled.
More.
Pinned conversations.
Recent conversations.
And I realized something.
The interface is showing me ChatGPT's features. It is not showing me my work.
There is a major difference.
I am not an engineer who wakes up thinking:
“Today I need to go into Remote.”
Or:
“Today I need to go into Library.”
Or:
“Today I need to visit Images.”
I wake up thinking about an idea.
I might be working on the House of Wisdom.
Then I might have an idea about advertising.
That advertising idea may branch into infrastructure.
The infrastructure conversation may create a new website idea.
That website idea may need work on desktop.
Then another AI may be helping execute something.
Then I return to my phone.
Suddenly I am trying to remember:
Which conversation was it?
Which branch?
Which device?
Which project?
Did I pin it?
Was it under Remote?
Was it a normal GPT conversation?
At that point the interface has created work for the human.
That is backwards.
The AI Should Organize the AI
We are entering an era of intelligent systems.
So why are humans still manually organizing conversations?
Why am I manually pinning things?
Why am I manually remembering which chat belongs to which subject?
Why does a branch feel like another conversation instead of a branch growing from the original idea?
The AI knows what we are discussing.
It knows when two conversations are related.
It knows when a subject has become important.
It knows when I have returned to something five times.
It knows when something has been abandoned for three months.
It knows when a conversation generated another conversation.
So give the AI more room to operate.
Let the AI organize the workspace.
Replace the Filing Cabinet With a Living Workspace
I think the future ChatGPT interface should behave less like email and more like a living map of the user's thinking.
Imagine opening ChatGPT and seeing one large circle:

Around it are the subjects currently alive.
Perhaps:
HOUSE OF WISDOM
AD SYSTEM
QURAN PROJECT
BCS
If I have been actively working on one of them, it lights up.
If something changed while I was away, it indicates that.
If an agent completed something, I see it.
If a decision needs me, I see it.
If a subject has three active branches, I can immediately see those branches beneath it.
I tap House of Wisdom, and instead of searching through fifty conversations, I see the actual tree of work:

Now I understand where I am.
The interface is no longer asking me to remember the system.
The system is remembering for me.
Pins Should Become Intelligent
Pinned conversations are useful, but they are still based on an old assumption:
The human must decide what remains important.
But importance changes.
A conversation I desperately need today may be irrelevant next month.
Something I haven't opened for two weeks may suddenly become critical because another branch depends on it.
An intelligent system should understand this.
Instead of only Pinned, imagine:
ACTIVE NOW
WAITING FOR YOU
AI WORKING
RECENTLY COMPLETED
DORMANT
RELATED TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING
That would immediately reduce confusion.
The system could still allow manual pinning for people who want it.
But manual organization should be optional.
Intelligence should be the default.
Branches Need to Become First-Class Citizens
Branching is extremely important for serious thinking.
One conversation can produce ten different directions.
That is creativity.
That is research.
That is invention.
But when branches begin looking like disconnected conversations, the user loses the intellectual map.
A branch should visibly belong to its parent.
The AI could even name the reason the branch exists.
For example:
Advertising System

Now I do not have to remember what happened.
I can see the evolution of the idea.
That matters because AI is increasingly becoming part of how people think.
The history of those branches is not merely chat history.
It is the history of how an idea developed.
My Work Should Follow Me Everywhere
Another problem appears when work moves between mobile, desktop, agents, Remote, or other execution environments.
The human should not care where the computation happened.
That is plumbing.
What I care about is:
What happened to my project?
If I was working on something from my MacBook and later open my phone, ChatGPT should say:
CONTINUE WHERE YOU LEFT OFF
Desktop work completed 42 minutes ago.
Two files changed.
One decision needs you.

That is a human-centered interface.
Hide What I Don't Need
I also want much greater customization.
If Images is important to someone, let them keep Images.
If Library is important, keep Library.
If Scheduled is important, keep Scheduled.
If Remote is important, keep Remote.
But if those things are not central to how I work, allow me to remove them from the primary interface.
My mobile screen is valuable territory.
I want the things consuming that space to represent my priorities, not the product's feature inventory.
There could simply be one button:
TOOLS
Everything else can live there.
My front door should belong to my work.
This Is Why I Am Building a Community Around Ideas
And this is where my larger community idea comes in.
Today I am writing about ChatGPT.
Tomorrow somebody may have a better idea for YouTube.
Someone else may have an idea for Google Search.
Someone may have an idea for Cloudflare.
Someone may identify something terrible about a banking interface.
A teacher may suggest a better education platform.
A truck driver may explain something engineers never considered when designing logistics software.
A grandmother may explain why an application is impossible for older people to navigate.
A child may notice something every adult designer missed.
That knowledge is valuable.
Companies spend enormous amounts of money trying to understand users.
Meanwhile users experience the product every day.
We should create better bridges between those two worlds.
A Community That Says: “Here Is What Is Wrong. Here Is My Idea.”
Eventually, I want this community to become a place where people can come and simply explain:
What were you trying to do?
What got in your way?
What confused you?
What would you change?
What is your idea?
Then AI can help organize those ideas.
Duplicate ideas can be grouped.
Common complaints can be identified.
Solutions can be developed.
Mockups can be produced.
Technical teams can receive structured summaries.
And instead of social media outrage being the main feedback mechanism between humans and technology companies, we create something far more useful:
Collaborative problem solving.
The company benefits.
The user benefits.
Developers benefit.
Designers benefit.
The broader community benefits.
And the product becomes better.
This Will Not Only Be for GPT
I am beginning with the GPT team because ChatGPT is where a large part of my work happens.
But this idea is larger than one company.
Every technology company should be able to receive ideas from this community.
Google.
OpenAI.
Cloudflare.
Apple.
Microsoft.
Meta.
Independent developers.
Open-source projects.
Small companies nobody has heard of yet.
The principle is simple:
Users should not merely consume technology.
They should participate in improving it.
And AI now makes that participation much easier because somebody does not need to be a software engineer to contribute an important idea.
I can explain a problem in ordinary language.
AI can help turn it into a proposal.
A designer can visualize it.
An engineer can evaluate it.
A company can decide whether to build it.
That is a completely different relationship between human beings and technology.
The Community Can Become an Idea Engine
This is what excites me.
Not another comment section.
Not another follower count.
Not another social network.
An idea engine.
People bring experience.
AI brings organization.
Experts bring knowledge.
Engineers bring implementation.
Companies bring scale.
And the community keeps asking one question:
How can this be better?
That question can change almost anything.
So, GPT Team, Here Is Community Update #1
My request is simple:
Give the AI more responsibility for organizing the user's work.
Stop making the human remember every conversation, pin, branch, tool, execution surface, and device.
Turn ChatGPT mobile into a visual map of active thought.
Let conversations become projects naturally.
Let branches remain visibly connected.
Let important work rise automatically.
Let finished work settle.
Let the system tell me what needs attention.
Let me customize the interface around the way I work.
Because if AI is becoming intelligent enough to help us create, research, write, program, design, and build—
it should certainly be intelligent enough to organize its own desk.
That is my idea today.
There will be another tomorrow.
And hopefully, soon, there will be thousands of people bringing theirs.
