بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْم
An Open Letter to the Muslims: Have We Honored the Blessed Family?
The Quran was not free. The Hadith was not free. This religion was not free.
It was bought with sacrifice, with blood, with tears, with hunger, with nights of suffering and days of war. It was delivered to us through a man who asked for nothing—not wealth, not status, not even kindness for himself. He was the greatest of all creation, yet he refused to ask for anything in return.
But Allah—who knows His beloved, who knows his heart, who knows the weight of his sacrifice—commanded him to ask for one thing.
“Say: I do not ask of you any reward for it except love for my near relatives.” (Surah Ash-Shura 42:23)
Allah commanded him to say it.
Because he would never ask for it himself.
Because the best of creation, the most merciful, the most selfless, was willing to suffer, to endure, to carry the weight of this Ummah without asking for a single thing in return. And so Allah commanded him:
"Say it, my beloved. Say it loud and clear so they can hear you. If you will not ask for anything, then I will ask it for you."
And we, the Ummah of Muhammad, the inheritors of this trust—have we fulfilled this command?
Have we honored his family? Have we been kind to them?
Do we let them lead our prayers?
Do we sit at their feet and learn from them?
Do we seek their wisdom, their guidance, their light?
Or have we turned away?
Look at the Holy Mosques. Do you see the Prophet’s family leading? Do you see their voices raised in remembrance? Do you see them honored as the heirs of his legacy?
No.
They are nowhere to be found.
The children of the Prophet ﷺ are cast aside, ignored, silenced. They do not lead. They do not speak. They are not given the place of honor that was promised to them. And we—we, the Ummah that claims to love him— we sit in silence.
Do you not see? Those who love them, those who honor them, those who serve them, those who sit in their company—they are the ones whom Allah blesses.
Not because they are divine. Not because they claim any rank above others.
But because they are his.
And Allah has chosen to distribute His blessings through them.
So what is wrong with us?
Have our hearts hardened? Has our love turned cold? Have we forgotten the one who carried us, who wept for us, who begged Allah for our forgiveness long before we ever existed?
When he lay on his deathbed, weak and exhausted, he did not ask for palaces, for armies, for wealth. He only asked that we care for his family.
And what have we done?
We have taken his Quran.
We have taken his Hadith.
We have taken his legacy.
But we have abandoned them.
The Prophet ﷺ once stood before the people and declared:
“I leave behind two things. If you hold onto them, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and my Ahlul Bayt.” (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2408)
And today?
The Quran remains.
The Hadith remains.
But where is his Ahlul Bayt?
O Muslims, wake up!
This religion is not free.
It came with a price.
And we are failing in our duty to the one who paid it.
The Prophet’s family should not have to beg for respect.
They should not have to seek permission to speak.
They should not have to fight for the honor that Allah has already given them.
The Prophet ﷺ told us:
"Loving me and my family is a sign of faith, and hating them is a sign of hypocrisy." (Tirmidhi, Hadith 3718)
So ask yourself: Where do you stand?
Will you be among those who honor the Prophet ﷺ by honoring his family?
Or will you be among those who ignore, dismiss, and reject them—those who claim love for him while turning away from those he loved most?
The answer to that question will determine not just your faith, but your fate.
May Allah purify our hearts,
soften them with love, and guide us back to the honor and truth that we have neglected.
