An Open Letter to Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the DSA, and Every Democrat Who Still Believes in Something
To Mayor Zohran Mamdani, to the Democratic Socialists of America, to every organizer, activist, and voter who refuses to be framed:
You have done what the establishment said was impossible.
You toppled a political dynasty.
You became the youngest mayor of New York City in over a century.
You are the first Muslim and South Asian person to hold that office.
And you did it not by compromising your principles, but by standing firmly on them.
And now, your endorsed candidates are winning primaries.
The movement is expanding.
The old guard is trembling.
The Trap That Awaits You
But now comes the greatest trap.
The same old guard that you defeated will try to pull you back into the fold.
They will offer you a seat at their table.
They will tell you that you have proven your point, that now it is time to be "pragmatic," that you must compromise your vision for the sake of "unity."
Do not fall into that hole.
They will try to frame you.
They will call you a communist, a radical, a threat to America.
They will try to make you the villain in their story so that they can remain the heroes of a narrative that has already ended.
But you have already shown that you cannot be framed.
You have shown that, when you follow your own voice, when you trust your own vision, you can win.
The New Deal You Are Building
You have spoken of carrying a "New Deal understanding" of Democratic politics to Congress and to the national stage.
You have pointed to the Four Freedoms, to the real core of the New Deal, to a moment when the party was unabashed about its focus on working people.
That is the right frame.
President Roosevelt built the Hoover Dam.
He built the Tennessee Valley Authority.
He built Social Security.
He built a New Deal that lifted millions out of poverty and gave them a stake in the future of their country.
He did not build communism.
He built America.
He built a country where working people had a chance.
He built a country where the government worked for the people, not just for the powerful.
And that is what you are building.
The Honorable End We Must Bring
You understand what is at stake.
You understand that the Democratic National Committee is a dying machine that cannot be saved.
But we must be strategic.
We must bring an honorable end to the DNC—not by attacking it with rage, but by dismantling it with dignity.
We must honor the greats who came before us.
We must create a museum for the Democratic Party, a place where we can celebrate the New Deal, the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act.
A place where we can honor Robert F. Kennedy, who spoke of love in a moment of national trauma.
A place where we can honor Malcolm X, who refused to be silent and refused to be framed.
And then we must build something new.

This is what I am asking of you, Mayor Mamdani.
This is what I am asking of the DSA.
This is what I am asking of every Democrat who still believes in something:
Build a symphony of voices.
Not one voice.
Not one party.
Not one machine.
But a symphony—a beautiful, chaotic, democratic symphony of people who want change.
People who are connected to the democratic ticket.
People who honor President Roosevelt.
People who honor Kennedy.
People who honor Malcolm X.
People who want to build something new.
And do not let anyone frame you.
When they call you a communist, say:
"I am building a New Deal for the 21st century."
When they call you a radical, say:
"I am standing with working people."
When they call you a threat, say:
"I am building a country where every person has a chance."
What I Am Asking
1. Do not let anyone frame you.
Tell your story.
Define your movement.
Do not let the old guard define who you are.
2. Bring an honorable end to the DNC.
Dismantle it with dignity.
Create a museum for it.
Celebrate what it once was.
And then build something new.
3. Build a symphony of voices.
Not one party.
Not one machine.
But a movement of movements, a coalition of coalitions, a democracy of democracies.
4. Honor the greats.
Kennedy.
Malcolm X.
Roosevelt.
The civil rights movement.
The labor movement.
The environmental movement.
All the struggles that made this country something to be proud of.
5. Build something new.
The US House Plan is a blueprint.
It is a rough draft.
It is a starting point.
Bring your ideas.
Bring your vision.
Bring your dreams.
And together, we will build something beautiful.
The Party Is Over. The Ideals Remain.
The Democratic National Committee cannot be saved.
It does not want to be saved.
It wants to continue extracting energy from the hopeful and delivering nothing in return.
The only honorable choice is to let it end.
But the ideals remain.
The New Deal remains.
The Four Freedoms remain.
The vision of a country where every person has a chance, where every voice is heard, where the vulnerable are protected and the powerful are held accountable—that vision remains.
And we will build something new to carry that vision forward.
A New Beginning

I am the fresh air.
I am the restart.
I am inviting you to join me on this journey.
Not as followers, but as partners.
Not as soldiers in someone else's war, but as co-creators of something new.
Let us honor the greats.
Let us bring an honorable end to the DNC.
