About Diana Medina
creating a bilingual poetry book and a mobile storytelling business
Hi there! I'm Diana, a first-generation Mexican-American poet, educator, and storyteller. I connect communities through the art of personal storytelling and poetry. Helping people build this as a practice extends my art, allowing deeper connections with themselves and others.
I am a Chihuahua mom, foodie, pop culture enthusiast, curator of fun facts, sister, daughter, and aunt. I love cooking, coffee, puns, thrift stores, knitting, hip hop, home decor, and my huge, hilarious Mexican family—all of which I have a poem or story about.
I spent the last 18 years working in nonprofit, education, and social impact spaces, proudly wearing my love for the community on my sleeve. Nurturing my practice as a writer and performer while maintaining full-time work has led to some pretty cool things, including:
1) Publishing my first poetry book in 2021, "Healing Out Loud" - this poetry collection explores mental health, healing, and identity.
2) Coauthoring a second book in 2023, "Amplify Student Voices,"- this is a field guide for educators on bringing public speaking, poetry, and storytelling techniques into classrooms to engage students and educators alike.
3) Writing an op-ed for The Educators Room about my work with high school English Learners to help them use storytelling to support language acquisition.
4) Starring in a spoken word poetry play with my friends at the AlegrÍa Bilingual Bookstores and Arts Collective.
5) Gracing The Moth stage three times (still chasing that first-place story slam win!).
I'm seeking new opportunities to use my gifts: storytelling expertise, project and program management, poetry advocacy, and creative communications. Supporting me via this page will allow me to balance my job search while nurturing my writing projects, covering essential costs, and keeping my creative spirit alive.
I invite you to support me by following the journey of my next two big projects through this page: writing my third book, a bilingual poetry collection, and launching my mobile storytelling business.
Supporting me means you will bring more poetry, stories, and creative wisdom into the world, fostering connection and healing. Let's turn this transition into a journey of growth and creativity together! Stick around… you’ll be glad you did.
