VHS Slipcover Template

A Photoshop template for designing your own VHS slipcover!

Within this Photoshop file you'll find:

• 3 artboards -1 for printing the full template on a single 11x17 sheet of paper (tabloid size), and then 2 others for printing on standard 8.5x11 paper (letter).
• Guides & sizing notes
• Weathered/crease texture for a "well played" look you can turn on or off

Note:

• If your home printer can use the larger paper size, you'll be able to create and print your VHS slipcover on a single sheet of paper. If you can only print at 8.5x11, the template is split across 2 artboards, and once printed you can glue them together at the spine. Completely unfolded, a standard VHS slipcover is annoyingly about half an inch too large to fit onto a standard letter sized piece of paper.

Questions I've Gotten:

• What size paper do I need? Either letter size (8.5x11) or tabloid (11x17) depending on the printer
• What thickness should I use? I recommend at least 130lb. This is approximately what a business card feels like. If you're unsure, the best way is to take a VHS cover you already have into your local printer, and ask them to match the paper thickness. It's one of those things that's much easier to judge in person, by touch, than online imo.
• What type of finish? Gloss or shiny.
• What's the best way to cut this out? I find that a super sharp exacto knife works better than scissors for this project.
• What if I don't have Photoshop? You can try using Photopea (I have been recommended this software as a free alternative, but have never used it myself).
