Balda Film and Blue-Eyes Film & Distribution have announced that the upcoming thriller Manipulation will arrive in UK and Irish cinemas from 6 November, following its release in Germany and Italy.
Directed by Czech filmmaker David Balda, Manipulation marks his first international feature—a notable next step for a director who made headlines early with his debut Narusitel (Intruder), released in 2019 when he was just 18, making him one of the youngest directors to have a full-length feature released in Czech cinemas and later on Netflix.
Set against striking European backdrops, the film is shot on location in Prague, Ferrara and Bologna, and features an international ensemble cast including James Faulkner (Game of Thrones), Féodor Atkine (Ronin), Heino Ferch (Downfall), Arnaud Binard (Emily in Paris), Predrag Bjelac (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), and Pawel Delag (Schindler’s List, Quo Vadis).
At the heart of Manipulation is a chilling premise: a powerful elite society operating in plain sight while exerting unseen control across Europe and beyond. What initially looks like influence reveals itself as something far more organised—a sophisticated system of manipulation embedded within political structures and the Church itself. As the layers are peeled back, the threat becomes increasingly omnipresent: adaptive, relentless, and more powerful than anyone first imagined—raising unsettling questions about free will, authority, and who is really pulling the strings.
For Balda, the film is rooted in a modern anxiety he sees shaping young lives. “I’m 26 years old, and I see that my generation can often struggle to figure out what’s true,” he says. “I think manipulation happens everywhere—in the media, in politics, in advertising. But if the film had focused on politics, it would have been very limited to one place, because politics is a bit different in every country. That’s why I wanted to show this topic on secret societies and churches, which is very interesting and more universal and omnipresent.”
With its international scope, recognisable cast, and timely themes, Manipulation is positioned as a bold entry into the European thriller landscape—one that taps into the paranoia of the present moment while keeping its focus on the personal: belief, choice, and the quiet ways power can shape a life.
“I am very thrilled and honoured that my film will be released in the UK,” Balda adds. “I have a huge respect for the British film and music industry, and I have always found lots of inspiration in British culture.”
