Today I want to introduce another public Zellno mod released for DayZ:

⛰️ Zellno Vanilla Hill Assist

The idea came from a balance problem on my DayZ server.

Vanilla vehicles often struggled excessively on the steep roads of Chernarus, while vehicles from larger mod packs could climb the same hills much more comfortably. I wanted to improve the vanilla vehicles without turning them into racing cars or changing what makes each one unique.

Zellno Vanilla Hill Assist is a lightweight configuration mod that improves the hill-climbing performance of DayZ’s original vehicles.

Each supported vehicle receives individual tuning for its engine torque curve, clutch and gearbox behavior while keeping its original drivetrain, handling characteristics, sounds and general identity.

Supported vehicles:

• M3S Covered

• Ada 4x4

• Olga 24

• Sarka 120

• Gunter 2

• Humvee

The configuration is applied to the corresponding vanilla base classes, so their original color variants are also supported.

Main goals:

• Improve performance on steep roads

• Provide more useful torque through the working RPM range

• Tune each vehicle individually

• Preserve the original identity and drivetrain of every vehicle

• Keep vanilla sounds, models and textures

• Avoid changes to storage capacity or vehicle durability

• Apply the improvements to vehicles that already exist on the server

• Require no economy wipe

The goal is not to make every vehicle extremely powerful.

Each vehicle still has its own limitations. The mod only gives vanilla vehicles enough usable performance to climb difficult roads more naturally and recover better at low and medium RPM.

Development was validated on the steep road leaving Mogilevka in Chernarus. The sign near the hardest section became the main homologation point for testing every supported vehicle.

The tests evaluated climbing ability, speed near the sign, gear behavior, low- and medium-RPM response, reverse behavior, maximum speed, handling, controllability and engine sound behavior.

The mod contains no scripts, custom models or textures. It only changes the simulation configuration of the supported vanilla vehicles and does not modify CarPack vehicle classes.

Existing vehicles receive the new configuration when the mod is loaded, including vehicles already owned by players or equipped with locks. No vehicle replacement or economy reset is necessary.
