Cure for accidental zooming

Cure for accidental zooming

Apr 09, 2025

Do you happen to have a pointer device (such as touchpad) that implements inertial scrolling i.e. the device may send scrolling events for a while even after you stop touching it? On the other hand some applications such as Google Chrome and desktop environments such as Xfce have actions bind to some modifier key and scrolling (e.g. by mouse wheel rotation or by some touchpad gesture). For example Google Chrome zooms content, if you press Ctrl key while scrolling. But you may press Ctrl key for other purpose, too, and if you do that while inertial scrolling is happening, the content zooms unintentionally and to great extent. I have created a utility that helps to prevent that while it is running. It works on systems that use X Window System from X.Org (X11).

Get the script that suits your system from https://github.com/jarnos/block-scroll-mod-x11
