Hello and welcome to Nature is my Jam! My name is Darrin and I’m a field recordist that specializes in documenting the hidden corners of the natural world through sound, filmmaking and photography. If you’re like me, then you love the sounds of nature. From the dawn chorus of birds that rings in the start of another day to the howl of coyotes in the dark of night, these sounds ignite curiosity, excitement and a deep appreciation for our planet.
The goal of Nature is my Jam is to explore the world of field recording and the art of capturing pristine audio in remote places to create natural soundscapes. As a field recordist, I capture sounds outside of a controlled studio environment using various microphones, recording devices, and techniques. I also incorporate my photography and filmmaking skills to document a complete record of the environment I am recording. My speciality is working in natural environments that are mostly free of the human presence to record the sounds of wildlife and nature. I have been recording natural soundscapes since 2015, but have been involved in photography and filmmaking since 2005.
In a nutshell, I am:
married to the love of my life, Rhonda, since 2002
an animal advocate and fur father to 4 dogs and 10 cats that bring us endless amounts of joy and love
a former Cyber Security Professional that specialized in governance, risk and compliance (yes, it’s as boring as it sounds)
a graduate of Michigan State University (BA Telecommunication)
a veteran of the United States Army (Signal Corps)
Please buy me a coffee if you have enjoyed listening to these natural soundscapes and learning about the art of field recording. Your donation helps immensely and allows me to continue to go into the field to capture the best recordings nature offers. Thank you!

Texas doesn't sound anything like Michigan. You're making me very homesick.
Hey Patrick!! Glad you are enjoying the recordings. Remember when you used to photograph birds through your telescope? Not sure why that memory just popped into my head but I think we were lucky to grow up in our small town. Hope you are doing well and enjoying Texas! THANK YOU for your kindness and support! - Darrin

I do remember that. The trick still works with cell phone cameras too! I do enjoy Texas. In particular it's taught me the value of water, and the value of public land, both of which Texas lacks and Michigan has in abundance.
