Satun is a little-visited province of Thailand on the biorder with Malaysia. I always enjoy visiting it with several interesting birding locations within a short drive of Satun town where there is nice accommodation. In April 2022 I spent 24 hours in Satun province, on my way elsewhere, visiting Thalebun National Park, Tammalang Mangroves and Nong Pla Phraya Non-hunting Area as well as a few other sites, seeing a number of birds that are extremely range-restricted in Thailand.
1. Common Flameback
2. Dusky Eagle Owl
3. Swinhoe's White-eye
4. Blue Whistlingthrush
5. Brahminy Kite (juvenile)
6. Yellow-vented Bulbul
7. Sunda Pygmy Woodpecker
8. Mangrove Bue Flycatcher
Having been birding in Thailand since 1996 it is not often that I see I new bird these days but Dusky Eagle Owl was species number 919 that in Thailand for me, to make it a very memorable trip.
