Say you've been living in a house for your whole life, you've found comfort in certain rooms, you have memories and associations with nearly every part of the house. There has been some leaks in the house, the heater doesn't work properly, there are faulty electrics, there are a lot of things that are kind of falling apart, but you continue pushing it off to the side, not knowing where to even begin on fixing it.
There comes a day when perhaps you explore parts of the house you didn't even know existed, or the damage to the house was beginning to become unignorable, or maybe it was pointed out by someone else. "What's in the basement?"
"There's a basement? How could that be? I've lived here my full life, surely there is no basement."
But there is certainly a basement. It's dark, cold, and full of things that bring up hard past memories possibly. This is your subconscious.
You hear a low growl from the darkness, you can feel the presence of a beast, you don't dare turn on the light to see it.
"Nope, nothing down here to see," and you move on. But now you know this door is here, now you are aware of the fact that there is something down there. You're curious but scared, what if the creature attacks you?
Do you dare find out?
Let's say you keep ignoring it, the boiler is downstairs so you can't fix the heating, there are pipes and electric boards down there as well, this is where the problems need to be addressed but you don't want to go down there!
You are stressed, trying to live a life in a house that is falling apart, you're constantly just trying to make small adjustments to compensate for what's not working. Putting buckets under leaky pipes, wearing 10 layers of clothing to keep warm, using flashlights instead of main lights, it "works" but it's not comfortable and it's making daily life a struggle even on the good days.
So what do you do now? You are aware that the root of your issues all live in the basement and now you actually need to address it.
You need to turn on the lights. But wait, the lights aren't working.
Okay, so you use your flashlight and you figure out how to fix one thing. You've decided to look at the heating. You still hear the low grumbles in the corner, so you hurry up down there and try to make it happen fast, your heart is beating out of your chest, you can feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The creature is behind you.
You spin around and shine the flashlight on it, you can see the green glow of its eyes, the matted fur, the white teeth.
You must turn on the lights! Illuminate the situation!
You find the breaker and reset the lights.
The basement lights up, you can see the boxes of storage all around, you see forgotten memories surrounding you, it may be too much to bear. But the creature that stands before you...
It's kind of cute.
It sits back on its haunches, tilts its head with big puppy dog eyes and you can feel the longing coming from it. The longing for love.
You coax it to you, feeling compassion for this creature, still unsure what it really is. It comes towards you step by slow step, cautious, weary.
You invite it to you with open arms and LOVE.
It comes in for an embrace, you wrap your arms around its straggly fur and as you continue hugging and sending your love to it, something is happening.
The creature's hair begins to dissolve, there is a magical transformation happening before your eyes, and you cannot believe what you are seeing.
Could this really be?
Could this really be... you? A small version of yourself looks into your eyes, sobbing with recognition, you cling onto your inner child and tell her everything is going to be okay. She is loved, she is safe.

This month is all about the shadows, darkness, and death.
Scorpio is all about the depths; death, rebirth. You cannot die without going to the depths, and you cannot be reborn without dying first.
Death isn't just literal, it's also a metaphorical process that allows us to become comfortable with the inevitable: change.
As humans, we sometimes are under the illusion that things can remain the same and we try to hold tightly to that notion and it can be our own demise. Change is inevitable and so is death, so the more we can get comfortable with the uncomfortable, the easier it is to flow with the ever changing nature of life.
Nature surrenders to the process every year, this time of year is the shedding and letting go, the beginning of hibernation, the beginning of the end... until spring. Nature trusts that spring will come, it knows that this phase isn't forever, that there will be a rebirth on the other side so don't resist now.
What lives in the shadows of your basement? What "issues" keep occurring and what does it look like to address them?
