As another year of not having my own place wears on, it wears on me. I was working to make my visits intentional and short enough to not be a financial burden or spoon-intensive on my host. But when an opportunity came that would offer me an extended stay in exchange for building community, I was elated. That excitement quickly passes as I settled in to the loneliest year of my life. The promises made were quickly rescinded and I have been struggling to feed myself, make friends, or build the community I was hoping to here. My career is doing well, as is my reputation in the field, but at what cost to my mental and spiritual wellbeing?

I have plans to get on the road again soon. I hope to continue to visit groups that are doing covid-aware mitigations AND community building to learn from them as well as to share what skills I have to offer.
