Hello - I am Naoko, a freelance curator in contemporary art. Born and raised in Fukuoka in Japan and now living and working in Oban in Scotland.
Driven by my own lived experience as an ethnic minority in the UK and the sense of urgency and responsibility towards environmental and societal planetary issues, I use arts and my skills as effective tools to generate relationships and changes for an even more just, diverse and sustainable world for present and upcoming generations.
Freelancing in arts is challenging - this is partially because our work unfortunately depends so much on the highly competitive, capitalistic and luck-orientated nature and process such as short-term contracts with institutions or funding applications. Your contribution hence will give me not only financial support but also crucial empowerment and confidence so that I can keep believing in myself and continuing my work.
