Meditating on the Psalms helps us know who God is, understand His ways, and recognize His attributes. Through these Scriptures, God has revealed Himself so that we can know Him more deeply and grow in our relationship with Him. As we seek His truth and guidance, the Holy Spirit brings divine understanding and helps us recognize God’s heart and His ways.

Today, we are meditating on Psalm 1, where the psalmist presents a clear contrast between the righteous person and the wicked person. He describes their different ways of life, their priorities, and the consequences of their choices.

Psalm 1:1–3 says:

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.”

These verses reveal the heart and priorities of a righteous person. His desire is to know God and delight in His Word. He does not follow the counsel of the wicked, participate in sinful ways, or join those who mock God. Instead, he finds joy in the law of the Lord and meditates on it day and night.

The psalmist compares this person to a tree firmly planted beside streams of water. Such a tree remains nourished, green, fruitful, and strong. In the same way, a person who continually delights in God’s Word is spiritually nourished and able to bear fruit in the proper season.

Psalm 1:4–5 then describes the wicked:

“The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.”

The psalmist compares the wicked to chaff that is easily carried away by the wind. Their way does not have the stability and lasting foundation found in the life of the righteous.

Finally, Psalm 1:6 gives the conclusion: “For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.”

Everything we choose has consequences. May the Lord give us His grace to walk in His righteousness, delight in His Word, and continually grow in our relationship with Him. Let us love God and love people and live according to His ways.

May God bless you all and give you a blessed day.
