Your Life Story is Imaginary

Your Life Story is Imaginary

Apr 21, 2025

From birth to death, the human being encounters an immeasurable number of experiences — moments of pain, fear, joy, love, loss, and attachment.

Though some circumstances feel like a lifetime, they are impermanent by nature. Each is just a passing blip on the radar — a fleeting appearance on the screen that soon fades. Every experience has a beginning and an end.

And yet, even though the experience itself is brief, it leaves behind a kind of permanent imprint in our memory — one that is constantly relived and retold.

The mind creates mental images of past experiences and labels them as “mine.” It builds an identity around these images, and this web of memories becomes what we call the “person.”

And so, we become falsely attached to this identity.

It’s this clinging that causes us to suffer - keeping our mind trapped in a story that no longer exists.

But we are not our past. We are not the stories the mind tells. We are the silent witness behind the stories — the awareness that observes all experience.

So what if we let go of all stories the mind tells and rested in pure awareness?

No narratives, no past. Just being.

Spirituality isn’t really about learning anything if you think about it.

It’s all about unlearning.

Ask yourself —

Who are you without your story?
