Struggling with memorizing new vocabulary and sentences?
One of my favorite ways to memorize words: Anki flashcards.
I love the flexibility and convenience of these. Here's how I do it:
1. Separate Decks and Templates: I have separate decks for vocabulary, sentences, grammar rules, etc., each with its own template.
2. Add New Words and Phrases: When I discover new words or phrases, I add them to the relevant deck.
3. Native Audio: I record native audio (either by capturing or asking my language partner) to ensure accurate pronunciation.
4. Minimize English: I minimize the use of English. Instead, I use images or target language definitions to help me think in my new language.
5. Contextual Learning: I create flashcards with example sentences or short dialogues to learn words and phrases in context.
6. Synthesize Grammar: I complement my vocabulary learning with grammar concepts, creating Anki flashcards for grammar rules, conjugations.
7. Active Recall: I design my Anki flashcards to prompt me to recall the target information from memory, instead of merely recognizing it.
8. Break Down Complex Concepts: I create flashcards that focus on individual components of complex concepts, and gradually combine them as I become more comfortable.
9. Spaced Repetition: I let Anki's spaced repetition system work by reviewing the flashcards regularly.
10. Practice and Adjust: I practice using new words on weekly video calls and periodically assess my language learning progress, adjusting my Anki deck as needed.
That's it. I hope this helps you.
