Perspective Sharing

Perspective Sharing

Mar 11, 2024

The purpose of Opinions & Truth (O&T) is to be educational by sharing different perspectives; one way this is done is by sharing quotes.

Currently, there are four quote types:
Cause of the Month
Video Game
Stupidity
Literacy

Literacy

Quotes about literacy are shared to battle against illiteracy, which was inspired by the video above. Did you know 50% of adults in the US can’t read at an eighth-grade level? This is the level sufficient for most human needs in 21st-century society. And, instead of helping people, they’re shamed.

To counter this, with each Literacy Quote post, I draw attention to Kids Need to Read, whose mission is to “improve the lives of disadvantaged children by providing inspiring book collections and engaging literacy programs to underfunded schools, libraries, and organizations across the nation”.

Cause of the Month

As everyone knows, there is a theme for every month; Black History Month and Pride Month to name some examples. Every Wednesday, three quotes are shared based on a theme, along with a resource and/or cause to raise awareness of.

Stupidity

Everyone knows humans are stupid. The hope is people learn and grow out of it, but there are individuals who don’t. These quotes are to highlight the various ways people can be stupid and to add some humor to the mix.

Video Game

Video games get a lot of unnecessary shit thrown their way by people who want a scapegoat because they don’t want to parent. Mind cannot be changed. To keep this section from getting too long, here’s the point of sharing video game quotes; to show their value. Video games are educational; they can be incredibly insightful as they fill their role of being a pleasant pastime.

For the curious, there is a US Supreme Court Case regarding violence in video games, Brown, et al. v. Entertainment Merchants Assn. et al., 564 U.S. 786 (2011), and it can be read about here. Here’s an excerpt:

Since video games can communicate ideas and messages through devices similar to novels or films, they can be classified as speech and thus are subject to First Amendment protection. Scalia observed that no definition of obscenity included violent content, and he also noted that many children’s books contain depictions of violence. He pointed out that the current system functioned effectively, leaving only a small segment of cases about which parents could be concerned. This meant that no compelling interest could be implicated, and he agreed with the Fourth Circuit that the evidence was too inconclusive to find that such an interest even existed.

To expand the Opinions & Truth (O&T) blog, I started The Weekend Game Show (WGS) to educate on and discuss different aspects of game development, and to show why video games can take years to make, to prevent another Cyberpunk 2077 launch scenario.

To provide educational material for game designers and artists, and some fun reads, I created a bookshop, the Rendezvous Point (RP), powered by Bookshop.org!
Check it out here!

In addition, I share educational quotes to promote literacy, the legitimacy of video games as an artistic medium, and regarding a Cause of the Month to raise awareness, while giving Artist Shout-Outs to human artists to combat AI's spit.
