One of the hardest things I've experienced this year was my son, whose only 11, officially getting diagnosed with episodic and semantic memory loss, which is rare, especially in kids.
Episodic = personal experiences (like remembering a trip to the park).
Semantic = general knowledge (like knowing the capital of a state or the meaning of words).
When I say my son is so strong and have been though so much in life and still keeps pushing. He had open heart surgery when he was 4 days old. Then he was in a bad car accident and almost loss his life when he was 3. Now this.
I thought once my son got diagnosed, then somehow there would be a cure for what he had to deal with but it's not. The doctor's can't even tell me what exactly caused it either. My biggest fear is him going to school or anywhere that I'm not and something happens that he won't be able to remember to tell me. I remember last year, he got hit in the face with a ball by his teacher when they was playing a game. I asked him how his day was and he told me it was fine. I didn't find out until his teacher told me and explained everything to me.
No one I know went through this or have a child that went through this. If you ever experienced this or have a child that's dealing with this, what have you done that's helped? I would appreciate any feedback!
