Secret Santa Fanart for my friend Eight ...

Secret Santa Fanart for my friend Eight + Behind the Scenes!

Mar 29, 2026

Generally, I don't like posting non OC stuff but I made this back in January for a friend (These are his OCs) for Secret Santa (yes it was late for secret santa cus this took like 3 weeks to make XD) but considering I made the music, animated, composited, and made Synthesizer V voice acting for it, I'm satisfied enough to post it since it turned out exactly as I envisioned :D

Process Overview:

  1. Script

  2. Storyboard

  3. 3D Mockups

  4. Background Art

  5. Music Production

  6. Proxy Assets

  7. Compositing Using Proxies of Assets (Embed Youtube Video)

  8. Animating Kavad

  9. Animating the Henchmen

  10. Final Composition

There was a lot of back and forth between creating proxy assets and compositing with them, checking progress with each update that I make to the asset, that looks as intended.

Process Breakdown:

I started out with a script and general plan:

I then created a very rough storyboard:imageI then made a 3D Mockup in blender:

imageThen I created some background art for it:

imageI forgot if I made the Music and Voice acting before or after I drew the background.. But I'll insert that step here..

For Music production, I used Fruit Loop Studio:

VSTs:

  • Pendulate

  • Ferrum

  • and a Custom sound that I made in Vital

imageand for Synthesizer V, I used the Saki Lite Voicebank on Synthesizer Studio V1 (Personally I found V1 to be.. better in some ways than V2..)

The Synthesizer V setup looked like this, though I missed a section when I was building it out so I ended up adding some space before creating the part I need to relocate, and used Da Vinci to chop the audio at the right place and move that section back in.

imageThe Synthesizer V process looks something like this though this is a separate example in case you want to see how I actually do this (though keep in mind this vid is long so you probs wanna skip around):

With the Proxies, Music, and VA done, I started doing some compositing in Da Vinci Resolve:

Eventually I finished the Background which looked like this without the flame animations:

imageThen I animated the characters in Clip studio paint..

imageI exported the characters, as well as the different layers of Effects Assets as png sequence images:

imageAfter that, it was just a matter of doing more video editing and compositing...

Overall, I spent close to 40 hours on this project across 3 weeks and I'm quite proud of how it turned out.

imageIt was definitely a good learning experience for me as my previous fully rendered and composited animation was from back in 2022 (for my Rooftop Night Watch AMV):

If you read this far, thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed the behind-the-scenes stuff!
