My name is MIRANDA WILDMAN and I call myself an atmospheric art witch
my pronouns are she/her/hers
I am currently living on the ancestral lands of the Cherokee East, Yuchi, Catawba and Miccosukee Peoples and present day Western North Carolina.
In my work as a creative guide and visual artist I draw inspiration from my environment. I grew up in rural Vermont so following along and going with the flow of seasons is an integral part of who I am as an artist and what I like to share with my audience. I am careful not to rush anything.
I spend my time in the art world creating atmospheric art installations reminiscent of dream scenes with mixed media paintings, cyanotype printing, ambient lighting and music. I am convinced that the atmosphere of a space sets the stage for unfolding creatively. Plans for 2023 involve art workshops for everyone and As the Wheel Turns, a Seasonal Gathering.
As an artist I am exploring the ways in which capitalism is at play in our daily lives, in history and in the future. Within the system of capitalism art and art making has been known in the past to be only for the elite. I am here to continue, as many artists have, to break through that binary. In my work as a creative guide and visual artist I believe that art and art making are for everyone. Using items we might already have in our home, we can create unique pieces of art. And with a little imagination we don't have to spend a lot of money (or time!) on art supplies, or have a huge studio.
Within the intimate experiences I offer we explore art making and feeling at ease while creating. I gently guide participants in the use of mixed media materials to create unique pieces of art with a focus on play, exploration and experimentation with color, shape and texture. The atmospheres that I creat are inviting, comfortable and festive with all of the materials and tools you need to make art.
By making art with each other as witnesses, we are co-regulating. Together we can make moves (pen marks/brush strokes/collages). Getting into a space of flow, we allow ourselves to self express in a way that can be transformative. When we are comfortably and consistently expressing ourselves together we are opening up pathways that lead to real connection within ourselves, communities and our surroundings. We get to know each other and each others’ needs and desires. When we make art together, the possibilities are endless. A feeling of belonging can bubble up within us.
When it comes to collecting, I would love a world where anyone who wants it can have access to my art. Although I need to receive a certain amount of money per piece to cover materials, time, promotion, shipping costs, etc, that will not prevent me from conjuring up creative and accessible ways for people to collect my art. This is why I offer payment plans to fit any lifestyle (just ask!), opportunities to trade paintings for goods or services you offer, and in the near future I will be making all original art available at sliding scale prices.
