Choice of kite coloring

Jun 14, 2024

Choosing a kite coloring page is usually not as simple a task as some may think. A successful kite design consists of its shape, coloring and color combination. There are a very small number of people who can work with colors subconsciously, but most have to go through many options to finally find the right one.

To begin, outline possible coloring schemes. This means a schematic representation of what your kite will look like in reality. This is not easy and simple for everyone, but after doing it, don’t be lazy to spend a little more time and draw the same diagram a dozen, or even two dozen times. Then start coloring each diagram with different color combinations. It is enough to do this for the first time, and you will understand that by painting the same parts in different combinations, you thereby change the appearance of the kite very significantly.

Looking at the colors of kites from various manufacturers, you can sometimes notice that someone seemed to be deliberately trying to make each part a different color... or, at the very least, trying not to make adjacent parts of the same color. It may look very beautiful when viewed up close, but as soon as the snake rises up, the colors will merge into one mass, and all artistic value will be lost.

Too many different colors and the overall effect is an inconsistent mess. Too few colors and the appearance may seem too uninteresting. Although some people believe that a snake made of a monotonous one-color material is beautiful in its own way, this point of view is still too specific and applicable to only a few individual designs.

Color harmony can be conveyed by placing colors close in spectrum on adjacent parts. For example, you can use red bordering orange and dark yellow, creating a kind of harmony of warm colors. Using splashes of contrasting colors, you can make the composition lively or aggressive.

In any case, remember that the kite is quite far away when you look at it from the ground (especially true for single-line kites) and therefore the design must take this into account.

Helpful advice: Take an atlas, or look in the library for books about flags - they were specially invented with an eye to making them look beautiful and be visible from afar. A lot of new things could be learned from this...

P.S.: The color green on kites has been out of fashion for quite some time. There is a legend according to which the famous serpent naut Cody (who used kites for military purposes at the beginning of the century) spread the opinion that a green kite is obviously a bad omen. He swore all his life not to make green kites. Since then, green snakes have become such a rarity.
