Introduce yourself; who are you and what types of books do you write?
My name is Michael James Beasley, and I am a Database Technician for a local non-profit in the Seattle area of Washington State. I am also the author of the Elite Justice Force Squad book series, a blend of action, sci-fi, fantasy, and political thriller with apocalyptic overtones. I enjoy writing books that are relevant to current events or have a clear message to inspire positive societal change.
What are your books about?
My books are about a young man named Caleb Porter and his struggles to find his calling in life after a multitude of setbacks due to his physical development being hindered by a lack of physical growth.
Porter becomes swept into the mysterious and secret superagency known as the Elite Justice Force Squad after accepting an exclusive job offer to enlist with the EJFS, and undergoes a transformative change within and builds his physique with superhuman and supernatural abilities.
Little did Porter know that he would embark in a race against time to prevent worldwide disaster on multiple occasions.
What was the inspiration behind writing your first book?
The inspiration behind writing my first book started as a spontaneous spark from within me, and derived from a feeling of frustration about the state of affairs in my country and the world.
My aim was to send a message to the powers that be, who are abusing power and status for hegemonic or financial gain to worsen the quality of life on Earth. The message was meant to motivate people to spark movement for positive change, accountability, transparency, and honesty in positions of power.
What did you learn while writing your second book?
I learned while writing my second title that I needed to refine my experience as a newly published author and going forward to be more concise and succinct when captivating readers across all audiences.
I learned greatly about the geopolitical sphere of the world, and how to apply my writing styles in a realistic way that makes the story feel immersive and plausible.
It's quite an enjoyable learning experience as a relatively seasoned author to explore all of the possibilities of how to grow as a writer.
What is the most rewarding part of being an author?
The most rewarding part of being an author is to convey ideas and stories in a tangible medium to reach reader audiences through dramatic and epic storytelling.
Additionally, the next rewarding aspect of being an author is seeing my literary works as my legacy on the planet, and as a sense of healing from past wounds earlier in my life.
What elements do you think make for a good story?
Elements that make for a great story are writing a story that many can relate to the protagonists’ struggles, and reading experience that captures the audience's attention with cinematic and epic scenes that make the readers feel like they are immersed in the story, as if they are watching an intense action movie in their minds.
What is the hardest part of being an author for you?
The hardest part of being an author is finding the time in my busy schedule to write more content to my literary works in progress when other things are clamoring for my attention, especially in this increasingly digital age of distraction.
Sometimes, it feels like an uphill battle when finding a balance between priorities of life to enter a quiet space for optimal creative output, and the assurance of being able to review and edit my writing when I’m closer to completing a manuscript.
What is your current writing project?
My current writing project is the start of a prequel series to the Elite Justice Force Squad book series, with plans to revisit the latter part of the EJFS timeline to write sequels to give a proper sense of closure and finality that satisfies the readers and myself as the author of the entire saga.
What is the best writing advice you’ve ever received?
The best piece of writing advice I’ve received is to let my writing flow out organically and not to force anything when the timing isn’t favorable.
Also, there are plenty of resources to utilize when editing a manuscript to optimize the quality of authoring a book like finding the right editor, and utilizing your network of contacts to find someone who will be willing to edit your manuscript at a reasonable cost.
