Debra Wynter Blogger Interview

Debra Wynter Blogger Interview

Oct 08, 2025

Introduce yourself; who are you and what types of blog posts do you write?

My name is Debra Wynter. I am a writer and blogger based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I felt inspired to write to uplift and encourage other women on their path in life and, in March 2025, I launched a blog to do this. I publish my blog on my website debrawynter.com. My main message to women is: You are the Light of your own Life. As a woman, I have gone through and am experiencing much of what many other women are dealing with in life. I share lessons I’ve learned and insights I’ve gained to help others. I believe in women supporting women and celebrating the beauty of each woman living her authentic life with self-love at its core.

imageWhat was the inspiration behind writing your first book?

I am working on my first book. It will be an extension of my blog as it will have the same key message to women: You are the Light of your own Life. The book will include topics which I will explore more deeply than what the length of a blog article can adequately cover. I may include some or most of my blog articles in the book as well, as some people appreciate having access to previously published material compiled in the form of a book.

What is the most rewarding part of being a writer?

I have always loved to write. As a child, I won a local essay writing contest about who is your favourite teacher and why. Throughout my working life, I wrote a great deal of organizational correspondence, proposals, compliance cases, and reports. I have been commended for my writing ability by several established professionals. Now that I am retired, I have decided to put my love of writing to beneficial use. It is most rewarding to me when a woman tells me that something I’ve written on my blog truly resonated with her and helped her. The joy I derive from writing is multiplied many times over knowing that something I’ve written was enjoyed by someone or has helped someone.

What is the hardest part of being a writer for you?

Embarking on the journey of being a blogger and putting myself and my writing out into the world for all to see and judge was a big step for me. A big step into the unknown. It has been a bit of a learning curve, but, of course, that is how one grows. Part of this new experience for me involved creating a website to publish my blog. I built and I maintain my website on my own with a little help – no, a lot of help – from WordPress, Elementor and free YouTube “how-to” videos. While it's been a bit of a challenge, it’s been quite fun to learn how websites are put together.

What is the best writing advice you’ve ever received?

I have learned that writing transformational non-fiction is most effective when the writer is focused on writing for their ideal reader. This advice has been very helpful to me.

I know that my writing is for women who may need to be empowered to understand that they were born worthy. I write to help women who may not yet realize that the most important love of all is the love they have for themselves. I write to uplift women who may need or appreciate a little cheering on and encouragement in their life.

Where can readers discover more about you and your blog?
I publish my blog on my website debrawynter.com (website link: You are the Light of your own Life). Links to follow me on various social media outlets and a web form for sending me a direct message can be found on my website’s Contact page. I welcome the engagement of women and would love to hear from any interested women who resonate with the content of my blog. News of the publication of my first book will be shared on my website, through my newsletter (sign up form is found on each page of my website) and on my social media.
