Introduce yourself; who are you and what types of books do you write?
I’m Ammar S., a fantasy novelist drawn to the spiritual, the philosophical, and the surreal. My stories don’t just aim to entertain — they aim to stir something deeper. I write Bangsian fantasy (set in the afterlife) that travels through celestial realms and abstract planes, often blending sacred themes into speculative worlds. Every book I write is a reflection on existence, purpose, and the unseen.
What are your books about?
At their core, my books explore the meaning of existence and the human journey through the lens of knowledge, spiritual tension, and metaphysical adventure. My first novel, Yakoon: A Tale of Everything, introduces The Sublime One, a soul granted the power to create after entering paradise. He shapes a multiverse —Kol— populated by sublime daughters and unique races. The story unfolds across physical, spiritual, and abstract planes, always circling back to one question: What lies behind all things?
What was the inspiration behind writing your first book?
I began writing Yakoon during a time of deep despair, disheartened by the state of the world and the noise that drowns out meaning. But writing wasn’t just a way to escape — it was a way to reach out and share the last sparks of light I still believed in. I wanted to offer something real in a world drowning in distraction. My hope is that the knowledge and spiritual meanings woven into my books act as a fragile light in the ever-encroaching void.
What did you learn while writing your second book?
My second book is still a work-in-progress but publishing my first book taught me the importance of momentum in community-building. I realized too late that connecting with readers and fellow authors during the writing process is essential. With my first book, I waited until just two weeks before launch to revive my social media presence. That was a mistake I won’t repeat.
What is the most rewarding part of being an author?
The most rewarding part is hearing that a reader felt something — that a sentence lingered, a thought provoked, a feeling stayed. Knowing that my words offered comfort, sparked reflection, or helped someone feel less alone makes every long night and doubt-filled day worth it.
What elements do you think make for a good story?
A good story doesn’t just entertain — it transforms. It invites the reader to question, to feel, and to journey through unfamiliar landscapes that somehow mirror their own soul.
What is the hardest part of being an author for you?
Staying motivated when the weight of doubt creeps in. There are days when the business and marketing side feels overwhelming, when the words stall, or when the silence after release is deafening. But I always remind myself: I don’t really have a choice. This path chose me as much as I chose it. It’s either succeed — or don’t. And I just keep going.
What is your current writing project?
I’m currently working on the second installment in the Kol series. Like the first, it will take readers into a new universe within the multiverse, with its own set of spiritual, metaphysical, and emotional challenges.
What is the best writing advice you’ve ever received?
Write what you feel not what you are expected to write!
