Coava Coffee Roasters is one of my favorites in Portland. It's a Portland-grown business with several locations featuring seating, a great coffee house vibe, and quality beans transformed by baristas who know what they are doing. [More about Coava Coffee Roasters]

One of my local go-to coffee houses brews Coava beans in a similar vibe: Lark. Lark is a cafe that is owned by the same folks who own a local restaurant (Allium) and who organize these really cool outdoor dinners. [More about them] This particular morning, Lark is brewing Coava's David Umburu blend from Kenya.

From Coava's website: Coava's relationship with David Mburu epitomizes our ideal farmer partnership - built on a foundation of trust, openness to experimentation, and a constant yearning for growth and improvement. Kenyan coffees have a highly prized and singular set of characteristics that often includes intense brightness, rich fruitiness, and unique savory quality. This profile is largely owed to Kenya's uncommon varietals and a unique variation of washed processing that includes a double fermentation.

All this is to explain how having a coffee is so much more than "having a coffee." Sitting here at a little side table at Lark, sipping the David Umburu...makes my resume edits part of a chain of some wonderful work. And all these associations -- the roaster I trust, the dinners with friends out in the field... -- it makes me feel support and love while doing the important next step of whatever will be my new career adventure.

A particular Thank You to Brian for this coffee!
