My Full Story

My name is KC Clark — filmmaker, author, Miami native, and a Florida A&M grad who went from teacher and coach to independent storyteller. I’m also a widower rebuilding my life and my art after losing both my mother and wife to cancer. I wrote my crime novel Com’n Up back in 1995 on a word processor and a stack of floppy disks. For decades it sat in a shed, forgotten, ruined by storms — the same way my first filmmaking dreams got buried. I sold fewer than 200 copies out of my trunk. My early films were underground hits, but the profits went to bootleggers, shady distributors, and street vendors selling DVDs for a dollar. But somehow, I’m still here. Still creating. Still refusing to quit. After salvaging old tapes, restoring lost footage, and rewriting my first book 30 years later, I realized something: every project I’ve ever made has survived things I wasn’t sure I would survive. My films and this novel weren’t supposed to make it — but they did. I create gritty, real, hip-hop–influenced stories rooted in Miami culture, struggle, and hustle. I’ve made films on budgets so small the cast ate from one 25-pound bag of rice — because that’s all we had. So trust me: a single cup of coffee goes a long way.
