Welcome to the public-facing research log of the Wingspan Innovation Lab.
People do not adopt what they cannot first see themselves in. True AI alignment doesn't begin with software—it begins with a human guide facilitating a "witness moment" where you recognize your own voice, calling, and lineage reflected back to you by technology.
With almost 20 years experience as a curator, public art programmer, and community scientist, I have had some of the most elevating conversations with creatives about life, dreams, nature, justice, growth, health, expression, insecurities, death, messaging, movements, fun, and love. As a cultural strategist and systems designer, I marked my entry into AI in March 2023 by asking and striving to understand as much as I could about myself using ChatGPT. My core focus began with me documenting my own experience of self-discovery, ego deaths, and search for clarity on the next phase of life. After experiencing transformation for myself in so many ways, I created Wingspan Innovation Lab to study what type of transformation I could cause for Creative Changemakers - even if it only begins with them seeing themselves better. I am not just focusing on increasing sells, shares, or followers. What has mattered most to me has been witnessing the transformation of creatives I have had conversations with about AI when I am able to help them see themselves. The Wingspan Innovation Lab (WIL) focuses on transformation and breakthroughs like self-discovery, freedom of self-expression, and understanding who you are and what you contribute to the world.
In my experience, holding space to listen to creatives before an opportunity (exhibition, grant, or art panel entry) opens up a whole new world of possibility for the experience being created. It makes the moment a safe space of connectedness, confidence, and vulnerability... Of Being Seen. Of Receiving Acknowledgement. Of Considering More for themselves.
When I wanted to share about chatGPT, it was only through human conversation with one person [at a time] that emerging technology could be included. I call the conversations 1:1 Charrettes. I would first ask permission to have a conversation while using my system to create a report for them based on a project or vision they have on their hearts and minds. After a conversation with my sister Melonie, who saw that my conversations were making a difference for people, I realized that I wanted to focus on people and their future goal in the world. In Process: Anchored in a 5-year initiative (2026–2030)
The Wingspan Innovation Lab anchors a 5-year initiative (2026–2030) translating lived practitioner wisdom into structured, open-licensable data frameworks and workforce credentials... at least, that's the goal. I am figuring this all out - what is the value of this information. How can creative change makers fall in love with themselves and their work?
Since marking my entry into AI in March 2023, my core focus has been documenting transformation through human conversation and emerging technology. I am on a targeted mission to conduct 100 foundational Charrette conversations by March 2027— my 4-year anniversary [milestone]. With 30 conversations completed and meticulously preserved as custom Wingspan Reports, this ecosystem serves as an active repository of cultural assets, a deployment platform for custom tech tools, and a front door for institutional co-investment. All things research and development... I am still assessing the data and looking for ways to collaborate with others.
As a community scientist, I combine lived experience, field research, and generative systems to build alternative architectures that prevent cultural amnesia, enforce equity, and ensure creative changemakers of color remain the co-architects of intelligence.
