Mark Carney’s Confidence Is Getting Bloody Expensive

Oct 14, 2026

Carney 2025: elections, disarmament, a Palestinian state without Hamas leadership for Palestine statehood recognition in 🇨🇦. Carney 2026: no elections, Hamas still armed, but recognition granted.

imageDear Mark,

I have $136 in my bank account today, five days since I was paid. I don't get paid again until October 28 and I still have a $444 car payment, $140 car insurance and my electric bill is due next Tuesday. Meanwhile my fridge is essentially empty. Do I put gas in my truck so I can get my child to an appointment? Buy groceries? Put something toward the electricity bill? There is no option marked "all of the above."

Meanwhile, your government already announced two more $100-million assistance packages for overseas Palestinians this year. Just to be clear... $100-million TAXPAYER dollars... my dollars. It must really be wonderful making generous decisions with money somebody else has to earn.

On July 30, 2025, you announced your intention to recognize a Palestinian state, based on commitments from the Palestinian Authority, against the wishes and concerns of the Canadian people. On September 21, you delivered that recognition, against the wishes and concerns of millions of Canadian citizens. The promised Palestinian national elections were still in the future. You obtained dubious commitments, yet you delivered the much coveted international recognition Hamas claimed they're owed before the commitments were ever met.

Canadians financed the follow-through. Obtaining a promise and obtaining a result are different things. Anybody who has signed a memorandum of understanding understands that the signatures do not perform the work. You should understand it too based on your history of signed MOUs and failures in your roles with two national banks. So let’s inspect what you demanded.

• General elections in 2026, without Hamas: Not delivered. Abbas postponed legislative and presidential elections until September 2027. With the elections postponed, the promised electoral outcome has not been demonstrated.

• A demilitarized Palestinian state and Hamas disarmed: Not delivered. September’s UN report explicitly says disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups has not been implemented.

• No Hamas role in future governance: Not achieved on the ground in Gaza. Reporting this month says Hamas remains dominant in most parts of the territory. Its exclusion from the future government remains an objective, not a completed result.

• Fundamental governance reform: Not fully completed. The UN identifies outstanding work on judicial independence, access to information, social protection and education. The PA claims substantial progress; that does not establish that the entire commitment has been fulfilled.

• Release of all hostages: Eventually fulfilled. Israel confirmed the return of all living and deceased hostages in January 2026. They had not all been returned when you recognized Palestine the previous September.

There is the distinction you keep skating past. Recognition was delivered, but the central democratic and security outcomes STILL remain undelivered. And the Palestinian Authority cannot simply promise Hamas out of existence. A signature from Abbas does not give him control over armed men in Gaza. If he cannot enforce the outcome, what exactly did your misplaced and uniformed confidence purchase?

This goes straight back to your judgment, Mark. You accepted assurances from a leadership that lacked the power to deliver crucial parts of them, then presented recognition as a way forward before those results existed. That is reckless overconfidence. And REAL Canadians right here in CANADA are paying the price for it.

The government’s own timeline makes the problem painfully clear. September 21, 2025: You recognized Palestine. September 22, 2026: You welcomed legislative elections scheduled for that autumn, announced another $100 million and offered financial help with election preparations. October 13, 2026: Your government publicly regretted the postponement. Twenty-one days between the confident presentation and the statement of disappointment. Your government “deeply regrets” it. Seriously!? Christ Mark, you've uttered more disrespectful language in disrespectful tones to female journalists than you have Hamas.

The statement announced no financial penalty or suspension of assistance. And what, precisely, were the assurances you relied upon? Canadian Press reports that the Privy Council has refused to publish Abbas’s commitment letter, citing diplomatic relations. So, by your lax liberal standards, Canadians are good and decent enough to finance your confidence in terrorists abroad, however inspecting the promised foundation of the agreement is another matter. How convenient.

On June 12, 2026, your government announced $100 million through UN agencies, Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations and NGO partners. On September 22, you announced a further $100 million. That is at least $200 million in new announced assistance since you gave Canadian recognition of Palestine as an independent state, across just those two packages alone!

Announced funding is not the same as money already paid, and those announcements do not establish whether payments are going to Hamas or Hamas agents working for UNRWA as is common practice in the area. Which is precisely why I want the accounts… All of them… Every department, every intermediary, every UN agency, including UNRWA, every recipient… Every single payment. Not merely the portion connected to elections. Show what Canadians committed, what has actually left the treasury, what reached its intended destination and what was achieved. Because our own finances are far from flourishing.

The Parliamentary Budget Officer’s June 2026 outlook projected deficits averaging approximately $64 billion annually over the following five years. Its September 24 report found contradictory classifications in your operating-versus-capital spending framework and warned that this type of rule does not limit overall borrowing. Changing the ledger column does not pay the bill.

Employment in Canada was approximately 41,200 lower in September 2026 than in December 2025, using Statistics Canada’s seasonally adjusted estimates. The gains you so smugly declared as proof your plan was working during the year has not offset the declines.

Food Banks Canada’s 2026 poverty report gave the country a D+ overall and an F for food insecurity. Its survey found 66% of people receiving government support considered it inadequate. People are juggling rent, fuel, heating and work that no longer pays enough, when they can find it. Their bills do not accept diplomatic optimism. What precisely does your judgment require before their hardship gets the urgency you attach to another announcement abroad?

I am fucking angry, Mark. Angry that Canadians struggling to keep their own lives together are expected to finance decisions whose promised results remain unfinished if they even appear at all. I'm angry that requesting proof is treated as though it spoils the occasion, and angry that the people earning the money keep being handed another explanation with the bill instead of a complete accounting. Then Hamas publicly welcomed Canada’s recognition alongside that of other countries, calling it an important step.

You said recognition would empower those seeking the end of Hamas. Hamas found something to applaud, which behooves Canadians to question your judgment, because it deserves more scrutiny than another recital of your intentions. Compassion does not require Canadians to switch off their brains whenever you announce another cheque.

Publish the commitments and the assessment of each one. Publish the recipients, payments, audits and safeguards against diversion, and Abbas’s letter. Review all existing funding against verified results. If you can't prove where funding went then call the bank and put a stop hold on the cheque. Suspend new political and institution-building commitments until enforceable benchmarks and consequences are public. Recover funds where misuse is established and recovery is legally possible because recovering misappropriated or stolen funds is ALWAYS in the best interests of Canadian taxpayers despite what that meathead Joly says. Give Parliament, the Auditor General and the Parliamentary Budget Officer the information they need within their mandates. Canadians should not need a crowbar to inspect the accounts they're forced or unwilling to finance.

This is why I wanted Pierre Poilievre, and why I still do. He has committed to reducing foreign aid and deport those ineligible to be here. I want those priorities changed, and I expect him to answer for delivering that commitment. Your résumé was supposed to reassure us about your judgment. It does not entitle you to skip the evidence. If your conditions never change your decisions, stop calling them conditions. They are talking points with a taxpayer-funded price tag.

My $136 has three jobs waiting for it. Your government’s millions should have to prove they successfully did even one.
