CTV’s Taxpayer-Funded Travesty: Pundits Preach Virtue, Spew Vitriol

Aug 13, 2025

CTV News has hit rock bottom, and it’s dragging Canadian taxpayers into the muck with it. By parading Scott Reid, David Herle, and Kory Teneycke as political pundits, CTV is serving up a steaming pile of hypocrisy, funded by the public purse.

These self-righteous clowns, joined by their podcast cheerleader Jordan Leichnitz on 'Curse of Politics', have the gall to pose as insightful analysts on CTV while hurling vile insults at Canadians on their private soapbox. Top it off with their sanctimonious obsession with identity politics, and you’ve got a trio of elitist goofs who mock the very audience they’re paid to inform. CTV’s refusal to dump these jokers is a betrayal of journalistic integrity and a kick in the teeth to every taxpayer bankrolling this circus.

Let’s set the scene: August 12, 2025, on 'Curse of Politics’s laughably titled “This Episode’s ‘Heavy.’” Scott Reid, the kingpin of this intellectual landfill, reportedly unleashes a tirade against Canadians questioning a Nova Scotia forest access ban, sneering at them as “selfish hikers” and telling them to “fuck off.” A real class act, right? His sidekicks – Herle, Teneycke, and Leichnitz – don’t bother to call out this trash. No, they chuckle like hyenas at a comedy club, soaking up the podcast’s “foul mouth” vibe, as reviews crow about its “raucous belly laughs” and titles like “F**k the losers” prove. This isn’t a one-off; it’s their brand – crude, contemptuous, and utterly out of touch with the Canadians they claim to represent. But sure, CTV, keep handing these buffoons a microphone to enlighten us all.

The hypocrisy is enough to make you gag. On CTV, Reid, Herle, and Teneycke play the part of sage commentators, droning on about trade wars or elections with the fake gravitas of a community theater reject. Meanwhile, they and their podcast pal Leichnitz scamper to their corporate-funded 'Curse of Politics' to trash the taxpayers who subsidize CTV’s cozy gig. And let’s not ignore their favorite hobby: preaching identity politics like it’s their divine calling. These sanctimonious blowhards love to lecture Canadians on inclusivity and morality, waving the woke flag on CTV’s polished sets. But off-air, they sneer at anyone who dares question their positions, or government overreach, revealing their true selves as elitists who see the public as fodder for their pious crusades. It’s a disgusting charade – virtue-signaling by day, venom-spewing by night.

CTV, swimming in millions of taxpayer dollars through programs like the Canadian Journalism Labour Tax Credit, and Google Bucks has the nerve to call this journalism. Its own Editorial Standards, which supposedly demand respect and public trust, are clearly just for show. By platforming Reid, Herle, and Teneycke, CTV endorses a double standard that would make a con artist crap his pants. These pundits get to play experts on air, then mock the audience with vulgar rants off-air, all while taxpayers foot the bill. Canadians expect a network funded by their hard-earned money to deliver professionalism, not a sideshow of sneering insiders who weaponize identity politics to mask their contempt of viewers.

Public trust in media is already in the gutter, and CTV’s insistence on showcasing this sorry trio only digs deeper. Every time Reid, Herle, or Teneycke, sneer and laugh at “selfish hikers” or revel in their podcast’s bile, they’re laughing at the taxpayers who keep CTV’s lights on. CTV’s editorial judgment – or utter lack thereof – is a scandal that makes CBC’s elitist disconnect look tame, except CTV pulls it off with our money and a smirk. Canadians aren’t here to bankroll a clown show of pundits who preach virtue while spewing vitriol. And I'm saying all this while freely admitting I admire Vassy Kapelos.

CTV must kick Scott Reid, David Herle, and Kory Teneycke to the curb and cut ties with 'Curse of Politics' and its ilk, including Leichnitz’s complicity. Their podcast rants and sanctimonious posturing have no place in a network funded by taxpayers on a regukar paid basis. Canadians deserve commentators who respect them, not a gaggle of self-righteous goofs who mock dissenters while waving the flag of identity politics. CTV has a choice: clean up this mess and salvage some shred of integrity, or keep enabling these terrible pundits and watch its credibility burn to ash. The public is watching, and we’re not laughing.
