A kind of okay, and kind of sad, researcher, writer, developer, yoga practitioner, and dog dad.
Most of my writing experience stems from my career as a researcher and computational biologist. My personal research and writing will revolve around objectively measuring the influence of Christian dogmas on the US government and culture, or lack thereof. I will dabble in writing about other interests of mine from time to time, such as depression, social anxiety, body image, nihilism, and sex.
I lean left politically and am an atheist. In regard to my views on metaphysics, it may be more appropriate to describe myself as a nontheist and a soft antitheist. I don’t want to debate the semantics too much, but I do want to be clear on my position. By “nontheist”, I mean I don’t subscribe to any of the theisms on offer, or at least the theisms I am aware of. I don’t deny the possibility that those who described revelations in scripture got something right about the spiritual aspects of existence. I’m a “soft antitheist” in the sense that I think religion holds us back from our true moral potential and understanding of the universe, but I don’t hold the view that theism only leads to harm.
I have many reservations when it comes to large language models and generative AI in general. A bunch of creative, human work was gathered and fed into the models, and now these models produce new content with no credit or payment to the individuals who generated the “training data”. I also have fears that the use of generative AI will displace a lot of workers, regardless of whether these models are in fact good enough to replace works. I also recognize these models are not going anywhere, so I am putting effort into learning how to leverage this technology to produce something of value. It may be wishful thinking, but hopefully some legislation is enacted to prevent social unrest if too many people become jobless.
