Power Hour

After obtaining my Masters in economics I traveled to Ottawa to work as an environmental economist at an international think tank. After 4 years of trying to address some pressing environmental problems via policy, I decided to change course. Why? Well, the degree to which evidence-based research was being used within the system was pretty opaque and the rate of change that seemed to be occurring was far too slow considering what the research was saying needed to happen. And yet marketplaces like Airbnb and Uber were experiencing, almost overnight, global economic, environmental and social impact. Intrigued, I began studying and researching these types of platforms more and more until I eventually decided to go "all-in". In 2014, I resigned from my position, persuaded my partner to do the same, and set out to think about how we could use marketplaces to advance society even further.
