I am not that brave

Or maybe we all are? image

I've heard it multiple times.
You are so brave.
Your lifestyle,
your choices.

Honestly,
I don't see it like that.
First of all, Egypt wasn't a real choice.
It was a must.

Like I shared in my first post,
when I receive a calling it gets so strong,
I simply can't ignore it.

But secondly,
I am not the typical adventurer we often have in mind.

Yes, I am in Egypt,
sitting in a random apartment in Hurghada.

But even I look up to those who just explore,
going on wild adventures all by themselves.

That is not my story.

WHAT FEELS LIKE A COMFORT ZONE TO YOU, MIGHT BE A BATTLEFIELD TO ME.

I think stepping out of our comfort zone,
looks different for each one of us.

For some it's bungee jumping,
for others it's approaching the person they secretly like,
or it's simply taking small steps into this big world each day.

This morning, I stepped out of my comfort zone.

It looked like this:
Me,
going for a walk to get some cash from the ATM,
twelve minutes from here,
and doing some grocery shopping on the way back.

That's it.

I am seriously proud of myself,
even though to most people this is simply normal.

Doing the "big thing" like taking a flight to Egypt doesn't scare me.
Being alone doesn't scare me.
It's the daily life.

The small things like meeting new people.
Or going shopping in places where I have to bargain.

So it might look enormous that I went to Egypt.
Yet, I approach it in a way that can seem small to others.

They might think:

  • Why don't you go out and explore more?

  • Shouldn't you find some temples to visit?

  • Why don't you go out for dinner, and try different restaurants?

Yes, at the right time.
For now,
this is already out of my comfort zone.
I take it as slowly as possible,
so my nervous system stays calm enough along the way.

Bravery looks different to everyone.

Perhaps you are someone who works every week,
with colleagues and unexpected situations needing to be fixed.

To me, that is brave!

I tried that lifestyle and it freaked me out haha.
I felt stuck, stressed, and uncomfortable.

Perhaps you are a mother.
That on its own might be one of the bravest things you can be.
Being responsible for another human being.

Every day,
every night.

All my respect to you.

Perhaps you are someone who performs on stage.
That is brave in my eyes too.
I've tried it,
and I needed alcohol to calm myself down.

We are all brave in life.
Aren't we?
All in our own way.

Seriously, just life on its own is brave.
It's intense,
full of choices,
no one really knowing what we're doing here.

I am sharing this,
because we see in others what we are scared to do ourselves.
So we label them as brave.

But your choices and lifestyle might be seen as brave to them.

So this is me saying to you:

YOU ARE BRAVE.

In whatever you do or you don't do.
Living is brave.
Making choices is brave.

My choice was going to Egypt,
which felt natural to me,
but it might feel scary to you.
And vice versa.

Anyway, I just mean this from my heart.

You are amazing.

Just. As. You. Are.
