Waking up smiling.
I feel peaceful.
Egypt is having this effect on me.
The slowness of life.
Time passing by without focusing on how much is left of it.
When I wake up here,
still sitting in my bed,
I realize I am already smiling contentedly.
Welcoming the day,
without intense excitement,
anxiety,
or stress in my body.
Every morning,
I am taking a new step.
Something that happens naturally.
Step by step, day by day
The first morning in Egypt,
I simply wanted to enjoy my Turkish coffee on the balcony with a sea view.
The second morning,
I noticed my body wanted to move.
Since the dust from the desert covers the floor daily,
I decided to add cleaning the floors after coffee.
Surprisingly,
I truly enjoy doing it.
The third morning,
I noticed I missed meditating.
So now my day starts with an even calmer mind.
The fourth morning I felt like adding some self-care.
I put on a simple honey mask while cleaning,
and I use my coffee as a face scrub afterward under the shower.
The fifth morning,
I noticed my desire to write came back.
It is a perfect way to end the morning,
with a warm cup of water, molasses, lemon and a bit of olive oil.
Wow.
I am impressed.
Not by myself,
but by how easy it feels to have a routine.
I've tried routines many times,
and they never felt right.
I couldn't get myself to stick to anything in the Netherlands.
And it always felt like pressure.
Not like something that made me happier.
Now,
I am not even trying.
Because I don't feel like I have to do anything.
Still, I am doing more every day.
And if one day I don't feel like it,
I just check in with myself,
and my body,
and I ask: "What do you need?"
Here, in my new life in Egypt,
all the little things start to add up
to a beautiful slow morning
that I am happy to wake up to.
Good morning ☀️
