The song combines lyrics by poet and musician Grant Watson with arrangement and production by Stefan Redtenbacher, performed by Eddy Smith and The Masterlink Sessions.
Its themes of grief, doubt and holding on became particularly powerful during the final section of the session. The written song had effectively reached its conclusion, but Eddy and the musicians continued. Without a planned arrangement, the performance developed into the gospel-style coda heard in the finished recording.
That spontaneous ending captures what Masterlink Sessions is about: musicians listening closely, responding in real time and allowing a performance to move somewhere unexpected.
