Free - a poem on ancestral wouding

You carry a lantern of sadness

Silent pain recast as self-contempt

Your indignation

bleeds into our love

and we are all so drained

I fill myself up with coffee

The magic elixir that soothed

my Mothers' heartbreak

So she could smile

her nails painted

her lipstick on

She wore the nicest shoes

you've ever seen

The overwhelm stacked on her shoulders

She walked a furious beat

in two inch heals down the street

to the bus stop each morning

pummelling the pavement with fury

I wonder what she was thinking?

Now you carry it

Well I don't want it

I won't take it

I'll choose love everyday

to set us all free
