This is a recipe that I first found in The Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book in the 1970's. Here is my adaptation of that recipe to suit my tastes:
You will need a 9 inch by 9 inch cake pan, baking dish or casserole, and a large mixing bowl
Fill the baking dish 1/2 full of fresh fruit: blueberries, raspberries, or pealed and sliced apples. Any firm fruit will do. Sprinkle with about 1/4 cup of sugar and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. Gently stir together.
Topping:
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 to 1 Tbs cinnamon, or mix cinnamon, cloves, ginger, etc as desired. Adjust the spices to taste.
Mix these together well in a large bowl
Cut up 3/4 cup of butter into the bowl. Cut the butter into the dry ingredients to create a crumbly mix.
Gently spread the mix over the fruit to create a thick topping.
Bake at 350* F for 30 to 45 minutes or until the fruit is bubbly and the topping is crisp.
This is granny cooking. It is very forgiving and adjustable. Just make sure that the dessert is done without being burnt.
