Manitu's Answer to a Life of Physical Labor

This recipe is for external use only. Please check with your medical practitioner before using herbals.

1 quart of coconut oil

1/2 ounce dry willow bark

1/2 ounce dry comfrey root

Add the bark and root to the oil in a clear jar and set it in a sunny location for 30 to 60 days. It needs 20 to 30 days of full sun at a warm enough temperature to melt the oil. I usually start this in early summer in the upper mid-west US.

Alternative: Brew the dry herbs in the hot oil for several hours. The oil should be at a temperature just too hot to put your finger in. Around 165 degrees F should be a good temperature.

After brewing the herbs, bring the oil to a liquid state and warm to the touch. Strain out the herbs with a cheese cloth. Let it sit a few minutes to let all of the oil strain through the cloth. Discard the willow bark and the comfrey root.

Add

1 ounce grated bee's wax

Warm oil and bee's wax in a double boiler until the bee's wax melts and is thoroughly mixed with the oil.

Remove the oil from the heat and cool slightly until it is hot to the touch but not scalding hot. It should still be clear and very liquid. I judge by hand, but around 120 - 130 degrees F should be good.

When the oil is at a good temperature, add these essential oils:

6 medicine droppers of peppermint oil

6 medicine droppers of eucalyptus oil

3 medicine droppers tea tree oil

3 medicine droppers rosemary oil

3 medicine droppers lavender oil

3 medicine droppers thyme oil

Mix well.

Bottle this while it is still warm. I use my old over the counter medicine bottles, but green or brown glass will work well as well. Cap the bottles tightly and store out of the sunlight in a cool spot. Refrigeration is not needed, but keeping this at a temperature that keeps it at a soft solid is recommended. This amount lasts me a year and stays good for that amount of time.

I rub a small amount of this on my problematic joints and injuries once a day. This is for external use only.

Check with your medical practitioner to be sure that none of these herbs are a problem for you.
