You can submit your edTPA at any time.
Your scores are only released on specific dates.
The date that your score is released will depend on when you submit.
Pearson has scoring windows. These scoring windows close on specific dates. The date that the window closes is called a Submission Date. All portfolios submitted by a particular Submission Date are scooped up and sent to scorers who then have a specific time frame to get them scored.
All scores come out on specific dates, called Reporting Dates. Using the graphic below (from academic year 2023-2024), if you submit your portfolio between March 22-April 4, your score will be released on April 25. No exceptions; scores won't be released early nor will they come late. The Reporting Dates are almost always on a Thursday and they come late in the day. If you are on the East Coast, you might not get your score until 10:00 pm. The day before scores come out, you will get an email reminding you that you will be getting your scores the next day.
edTPA displays their submission dates in a rather confusing fashion. They present the score report date on the left and the submission dates on the right. They've done this because they encourage folks to pick the date that they need their scores returned before seeing the dates that they need to submit. However, it confuses people into thinking that they have to submit on a specific date.
New submission dates for the upcoming academic year are usually announced by the end of July but I have also seen them come out in August. Generally, the first scoring window will close the first Thursday in October, with the first Reporting Date 3 weeks later. In the 2024-2025 academic year, that the first scoring window will close on October 3 (called "Submission Date") and those who meet that deadline will receive their scores on October 24 ("Reporting Date").
After that they set the other submission dates to be every two weeks. Thus, a pattern gets established where each Thursday alternates from being a Submission Day or a Reporting Date.
Receiving the scores...
On the evening prior to the Score Reporting Date, you will receive an email from Pearson/edTPA telling you to expect your scores the next evening by 10:00 pm EST. You will receive your scores by email. You will not receive your scores from Pearson earlier in the day so it's best to just relax and not constantly check your email all day. Your Ed Prep Program and state licensing agency will, however, receive your scores earlier in the day but this is not something that is available to every person in every state. My best advice - RELAX.
Your score report will give the raw score. It will not say "Pass" or "Fail." This is because every state and/or educator prep program has different requirements. To find out your score requirement, go to this link.
Gaps in the Submission and Reporting Dates
Watch out for the gaps!!! In 2023-24, there were no submission dates in January, June, or September. That meant that people who did not submit by Dec. 14, 2023, were out of luck and they had to wait until March 14, 2024 to get their scores back!
Good news! In the upcoming year, 2024-2025, there will be one submission date in January and one in June. This will help folks a lot.
