Creating a woodcut of a shark and a fish is an adventure filled with textures, cuts, and surprises. The process begins with that delightful feeling of holding a soft piece of wood in my hands. The initial drawing is the first step, where I put the idea of the shark and the fish on paper, imagining every detail—from the shark's imposing lines to the fish's delicate scales.

Once the drawing is ready, the most fun part begins: transferring it onto the wood. I use carbon paper to trace the outline, and then the real challenge starts. I take the gouges, which are like small sculpting tools, and start carving the wood, removing the parts I want to leave white in the print. With each cut, the image comes to life, and I need to focus so I don't take off more than I should.

It’s a job that requires patience and precision, but also a lot of care. I can feel the texture of the wood under my hands and the pleasant smell it releases. With each carving, the shark becomes fiercer, and the fish more agile, almost as if they’re swimming right in front of me.

After all the carving, it’s time for the ink. I roll the black ink over the wood, making sure it gets into all the raised parts. The moment of placing the paper on top is magical. With a wooden spoon, I press the paper against the woodblock, feeling every groove and relief.

When I lift the paper, the shark and fish appear printed, full of life and details. It’s always a surprise to see the final result because it never turns out exactly as I imagined, but that’s the beauty of woodcutting. Each print is unique, with its own little imperfections and peculiarities.

It’s an incredible feeling to see how the wood, ink, and paper transform into such a special work of art.
