Omarchy Mac v4.0.0 "Quattro" is here!

Quattro is the Omarchy 4 generation, and the first release of Omarchy Mac to
fully target Apple Silicon. The Waybar/Walker/Mako/SwayOSD desktop is replaced
by a single Quickshell-based shell, Hyprland configuration moves to Lua, and
updates flow through omarchy update with per-user migrations. On top of that,
this release lands a first-class Apple Silicon story: a one-command install from
Asahi Alarm with full-disk encryption, a prebuilt aarch64 package repo, and
notch-aware hardware integration throughout.

Highlights

• New shell. A single Quickshell process replaces Waybar, Walker, Mako,
  SwayOSD, and Fuzzel. The bar, launcher, menu, notifications, clipboard picker,
  emoji picker, lock screen, and OSD now share one theme and one codebase.

• Lua configuration. Hyprland config migrates from hyprland.conf to Lua;
  themes are expressed in Lua and live in a single shell.toml color surface.

• One-command Mac install. omarchy-mac-setup carries an Asahi Alarm image
  to a booted, encrypted Omarchy desktop in one command.

• Prebuilt aarch64 packages. Most of the default set installs from a
  published aarch64 repo instead of compiling for hours on the machine.

New shell (Quickshell)

• Bar with drag-and-drop widget placement, live inline config panel, and
  keyboard navigation.

• Interactive panels for power, network, Bluetooth, audio, display, weather,
  and more — all keyboard-driven and themeable.

• Native clipboard history with image support, master/detail layout, and
  sensitive-content filtering; native emoji picker.

• Notifications daemon (replaces Mako) with dedup, history, and countdown.

• Modular plugin system with third-party plugin sources and install/uninstall.

• Status widgets: stay-awake, night light, keyboard layout, system stats,
  model-usage, Tailscale, Mullvad, and more.

• Lock screen and idle handling moved into the shell (replaces hyprlock/hypridle).

Apple Silicon specifics (aarch64)

Install & disk

• omarchy-mac-setup: one-command guided install from Asahi Alarm — hostname,
  user, full-disk encryption, three reboots, ~15 minutes.

• Full-disk encryption in place: /boot moved onto the EFI partition before
  encrypting the btrfs root; resumable cryptsetup progress.

• btrfs + Snapper snapshots with @fresh and @factory restore points;
  omarchy snapshot restore verified working on Apple Silicon.

• Prebuilt aarch64 packages served from the omarchy-mac org, with graceful
  fallback for packages that have no ARM build.

Display & notch

• Bar auto-sizes to the Apple notch (measured cutout, not the full strip), with
  estimated cutouts for the MacBook Pro 14"/16" and Air.

• Asahi notch area enabled by default; notch-friendly 34px bar height and side
  layout; edge-aware popup alignment.

• macOS-style notched sliders and a notched text-size slider in the display panel.

Hardware

• hid_apple fnmode=1 media keys on the top row, with an initramfs rebuild so
  it survives reboot.

• Shift + brightness keys drive the keyboard backlight (F1/F2 Mac layout).

• Screen recording falls back to wf-recorder — Apple GPUs can't run
  gpu-screen-recorder; region picker shared between screenshot and recording.

• Apple Studio/XDR display brightness via asdcontrol.

• Waits for apple-drm before starting the compositor (fixes the blank
  simpledrm boot); Apple Silicon audio stack; battery discovery that doesn't
  assume BAT0.

• T2 Mac fixes: gmux backlight instead of Touch Bar, suspend/fan defaults;
  Broadcom Wi-Fi quirk scoped to Intel Macs only.

Packages & apps

• Skips repo-unavailable/x86-only packages instead of failing migrations
  (Obsidian, Pinta); builds voxtype from source since voxtype-bin is
  x86_64-only.

• omacut shipped by default; Emacs via the omarchy-emacs AUR package; Node
  installed for aarch64.

• Launcher/screen-share picker and browser PipeWire capture built for ARM.

• Spotify moved to an optional install.

Upgrading from 3.x

• omarchy-upgrade-to-quattro-mac performs the in-place upgrade. Do not run
  omarchy-upgrade-to-quattro on a Mac — it rewrites the mirrorlist to x86_64
  mirrors and breaks pacman on aarch64.

• The upgrade switches the checkout to quattro, installs the Quattro stack,
  wires /usr/share/omarchy, replaces the Hyprland config, retires
  Waybar/Walker/Mako/SwayOSD, and moves networking from iwd to NetworkManager.

Removed

Waybar, Walker, Mako, SwayOSD, Fuzzel, the Qt5 stack, Kvantum, bluetui, and
impala, replaced by the unified shell.
