Welcome Autumn

Welcome Autumn

Aug 25, 2025

Friends!

We can feel it in the air… Summer is coming to an end. There are signs all around - shops are full of Back to School items, the fields have been harvested, blackberries are ripening in hedgerows, leaves on the trees have a tinge of yellow, and the sun is setting earlier in the evenings.

Am I feeling sad about this? No.

I love to sit outside and observe the changing of the seasons. It gives me a sense of Mother Nature being in charge. We may not be able to be certain of many things in this life, but we can be sure the leaves will change colour, the sun will set earlier, the frost will come and creatures will hibernate. I get comfort from this.

And I love Autumn! It’s my absolute favourite time of year. Here in the UK, we are very lucky to observe so much seasonal beauty. Autumn brings a blast of beautiful colour to the trees - red, gold, orange and yellow. It also brings days of golden, warm sunshine, when you can sit outside without being too hot or too cold.

My favourite part of Autumn, though, is the feeling in the air. It’s magical. If you go out early, there is a slight crispness - a fresh new feeling. It tells you that changes are coming. Good changes. It makes you feel motivated to take on new challenges or start new things.

Many people think that January is the time to make resolutions and start new things. I disagree. The best time to do this is September. Autumn impacts us psychologically. As the season changes, we change too. For young people, they start new school years or go off to university. That can mean big changes for parents and grandparents too. The opportunity is there for all to make positive changes. People who embrace changing seasons and changing times become more open-minded, curious, driven and successful.

But what else does the Autumn offer us? The scents of cinnamon, nutmeg and pumpkin are all linked to feelings of warmth, coziness and comfort. We are approaching the season of celebrations: Halloween, Bonfire Night and the Countdown to Christmas. So much to look forward to.

Yes, I love Autumn. Let’s enjoy it together.

Lots of love,

Malcy xx
