THE PRESENT HOLDS THE PEN

imageThere is something profoundly different about realizing that the present is not merely where life is happening.

The present is where life is being written.

We often think of the present as a point between two larger realities.

The past contains what has already happened.

The future contains what has yet to happen.

And the present becomes the narrow space between them, a moment we are encouraged to appreciate before it disappears.

But what if the present is not the smallest part of the story?

What if it is the place with the pen?

The present is not an empty space between what was written and what will be written.

It is where the pen actually touches the page.

The Previous Page Does Not Hold the Pen

The previous page may contain history.

It may contain wisdom.

It may contain evidence, memories, accomplishments, disappointments, promises, instructions, patterns, landmarks and entire chapters that once accurately described your life.

But the previous page has one significant limitation:

It is no longer holding the pen.

That does not make it irrelevant.

It makes it written.

And something being written does not automatically give it authorship rights over what is being written NOW.

There are times when we unknowingly hand the pen backward.

We consult yesterday before allowing ourselves to describe today.

We ask former conditions what present possibilities are reasonable.

We ask previous experiences how quickly something can happen now.

We ask an old landscape which roads should exist in a territory it has never seen.

And before long, the present becomes a continuation written almost entirely with yesterday’s vocabulary.

But the present can see what the previous page could not.

It is HERE.

Write From What Is True Here

Present-tense authorship does not require you to deny anything that came before.

It simply means history does not automatically receive editorial control.

You can honor what was without asking it to authorize what is.

You can retain wisdom without retaining limitation.

You can remember without reproducing.

You can appreciate an earlier chapter without requiring the current one to resemble it.

And you can recognize when something that was once true is no longer the most accurate description of where you are.

This is where the pen becomes important.

Because sometimes a new reality does not need another explanation.

It needs new language.

What is true HERE?

What is available HERE?

What do I prefer HERE?

What do I choose HERE?

What am I willing to author from HERE?

The answers do not have to be inherited.

The present holds the pen.

The Future Does Not Hold It Either

It is easy to hand authorship forward too.

Someday.

Eventually.

When everything changes.

When the conditions are perfect.

When the resources arrive.

When the next chapter begins.

When you finally become the version of yourself who can live what you already know you desire.

But the future cannot physically write the present page.

It is not here.

The pen is.

And that means the authority to originate something new does not have to remain suspended until a later version of life arrives.

The future can contain possibility without becoming the location of your authorship.

You can write from NOW.

The Present Can Originate

The present is not restricted to choosing between options inherited from the past.

It can originate.

It can prefer something that has never been experienced before.

It can recognize an option that did not previously exist.

It can refuse an unnecessary continuation.

It can change direction without requiring the old road to approve the turn.

It can author an entirely different relationship with money, work, rest, love, creativity, leadership, recreation, home, opportunity, provision, time and life itself.

And it can remain open while doing so.

Holding the pen does not require closing the room.

Divine guidance can still speak.

Divine-co-creation can still populate.

Unexpected possibilities can still appear.

Wisdom can still contribute.

Life can still surprise you.

Co-creation does not require the surrender of authorship.

The present can hold the pen while remaining wonderfully open to everything that can participate in what is being written.

NOW Is Not Waiting to Become Next

There is another subtle habit that can disappear when the present holds the pen.

We stop treating NOW primarily as preparation for NEXT.

Yes, there will be another moment.

There will be another chapter.

There will be movement.

There will be continuation.

But NOW does not derive its significance from eventually becoming something else.

NOW is already a living location of authorship.

The present can be supplied.

The present can be enjoyed.

The present can be replenishing.

The present can contain love.

The present can contain wealth.

The present can contain beauty.

The present can contain movement.

The present can contain fulfillment.

And the present can simultaneously author what moves forward from here.

There does not have to be a competition between living NOW and creating NEXT.

The same pen can write both.

Put the Pen Where Life Is

Perhaps one of the simplest shifts in authorship is also one of the most powerful:

Stop placing the pen where you are not.

Yesterday cannot hold it.

Tomorrow cannot hold it.

The old landscape cannot hold it.

The expired condition cannot hold it.

The former limitation cannot hold it.

And even the promise of what might someday become possible does not need to hold it.

Put the pen where life is.

HERE.

NOW.

In your hands.

In your awareness.

In your preference.

In your choosing.

In your Divine authorship.

Then remain open.

Listen when there is something to hear.

Receive when there is something to receive.

Change the sentence when something more accurate becomes visible.

Allow Divine co-creation to populate the page with possibilities you could not have predicted.

But do not mistake openness for absence from your own authorship.

You are here.

The page is here.

The pen is here.

And the NEW does not have to wait for another chapter before it can be written.

THE PRESENT HOLDS THE PEN.

And NOW, you write.
