Eighty-two seconds of Pueo

Eighty-two seconds of Pueo

Oct 05, 2026

Short reel of the handheld I have been building. Everything on screen is the firmware's own output at 0.4.34, so it is the build that is on the site right now rather than a mockup.

Pueo is a ten dollar touchscreen board with five radios behind it. WiFi and Bluetooth off the ESP32 itself, a CC1101 for sub-GHz, an NRF24 for 2.4 GHz, a PN532 for NFC and RFID, and a GPS to pin whatever you hear to a position. All of it driven by touch, no serial console needed.

The reel runs through the WiFi screen, the Bluetooth screen, the surveillance spotter that names ALPR cameras and body cameras and trackers in range, the tracker hunt that tells you whether something is actually following you, and the drone detector that decodes Remote ID.

What is not in the reel is the part I care about most. Stealth mode is device-wide, so the twenty features that transmit refuse to start and tell you where the switch is. Logging goes to a card you hold, not to me. Every published image rebuilds byte for byte from the published source, so you can check the binary against the code yourself.

Free and open, GPL-3.0-or-later, and it stays that way. Pueo is a fork of ESP32-DIV by CiferTech, who did a lot of the work this stands on. Go support them too.

Coffee goes on radio modules and boards to break, which is most of how this gets tested.
