Winter's Echo: A Love to Remember

Winter's Echo: A Love to Remember

Aug 19, 2024

The cold has come, with it arrived all our unspoken memories

The ground has frozen over, still

The mist hangs over the lake, sullen with the fears of man

The sun has barely risen and the first fire of the day has already been made

These past few days have been endless, sleep is yet to visit

I have found myself doing all things over, tasks are what fill my days

There is nothing left to clean, nothing left to mend

I wonder if there’ll come a time when there’ll be nothing left to write

I think about how the seasons have changed since you have been gone

I am no longer welcomed the same

it is as though they know you are longer here

The bare branches torment me

For I am reminded that I am missing a part of me; you

This land has bared much, for here lies you

The colour has left my cheeks, I am in mourning again

it was only last winter that you left

yet so many years have gone by

Sorrow has taken the place of courage as I am unable to say goodbye

It was only last winter that you left

for how has time moved the same

I look to the sky; I question the heavens

How can it be that I am here and you are there?

as the days grow shorter, my mind seems absent

I dwell in the memory of you

I am thankful there is still a space which holds you

I think on all our stories shared; all our choices made

I love you, until the numbers stop

until the last dews drop

I do

The cold has made its way to our bed

The fire burns no more

I look over to your side

and a warm smile fills my cheeks as I see you lying closely, still
