Hi everyone, it's been a long minute! I've been busy with game design and teaching work, and I currently have a half-dozen drafts of blog posts that I'm not happy with yet. I promised myself this blog would be more about providing valuable game design insights rather than frequency, so I'm not going to post just for the sake of having content. Once things slow down, I'll be back to blogging again :)
For now, I wanted to share that I'm giving a workshop this Saturday at Philippine GameDev Expo (PGDX)! It's a brand-new topic, different from my usual game design workshops. This time, I want to help game devs with a soft skill that's essential to any industry where you need to convince someone else of your idea: public speaking.
Here's the description of the workshop, which is happening Saturday July 25, 3 pm to 5 pm @ Meeting Rooms 4 and 5:
Level Up Your Pitch: Public Speaking Skills for Game Devs
Great games deserve great pitches. In this interactive workshop, award-winning public speaker and game design consultant Luna Javier (with 50+ shipped titles and extensive international pitching experience) shares practical techniques to help developers improve how they present their ideas - building confidence, reducing filler words, and connecting more effectively with an audience.Through short exercises, small group practice, and optional mock pitches, participants will get immediate, actionable feedback on their delivery. Whether you’re pitching a game, an idea, or yourself, you’ll leave with tools you can apply right away.
If you're shy about public speaking, don't worry - I won't force anyone to speak. You can volunteer for group exercises, or practice by yourself. Introverts and quiet audience members are just as welcome as those who want to get up on stage and pitch in front of a crowd.
