Burnout Sneaks Up, But You Can Fight Back

Ever had one of those days? No, not the one-off tiring day. I mean those days that string together and make you feel like you're in an endless loop of fatigue and frustration. Yep, I've been there. I've lived it, and I’m here to spill the beans on the hidden beast we often refuse to acknowledge: Burnout.

The Unseen Weight We Carry

I'll be real with you; I was clueless. I felt like a car with an empty gas tank, still pushing the pedal, hoping I'd somehow miraculously zoom ahead. But, why?

One evening, as I sat drowning in my thoughts, my incredible wife pulled out a sheet of paper. Together, we started listing down things that weren't feeling right. Things that, deep down, we both knew were signs of burnout. Here’s a sneak peek:

- That nagging feeling of not achieving enough.

- Resorting to an extra drink...or three.

- Snapping in conversations, more often than not.

- Riding an emotional rollercoaster, every. single. day.

- The worst of them all? Doubting my worth and sabotaging my own journey.

Recognise any of these in your life?

The Breaking Point

After admitting to these, I hoped I could power through. Guess what? That strategy flopped. Big time. So, I did what many fear to do: I hit the pause button on my career. My new motto? ‘Recharge to Take Charge’.

The Road to Rediscovery

Now, I didn’t just binge-watch TV during this time (though, no judgment if that brings you joy!). Instead, I delved deep:

- I meditated. The silence spoke volumes.

- I became a morning person, cherishing those quiet moments before the world woke up.

- Changed the scenery. Even a walk in a different park can feel like a mini-vacation.

- And, importantly, I sought professional help. Trust me, there’s no shame in that game.

Ever tried any of these yourself?

Today and Tomorrow

I've got that list, all ten points of it, right on my desk. A tangible reminder of where I was and where I'm striving to be. I’m no superhero; on any given day, 1 or 2 points from that list might pop back. But hey, it's progress, not perfection, right?

Your Turn!

Here are my 3 tips that I want you to action
