About Ozzie
Hi! I’m Ozzie. I’m 4-year old mixed breed pup with a scruffy hairdo and a heart of gold. In January 2025, a dog friend of mine jumped on my back and now I can’t use my back legs, bladder, or bowels on my own. I’m not in any pain but this is very confusing for me. I love to run and play and now I’m not allowed. I have a special harness and a new crate and the dreaded cone of shame to keep me from licking my feet which feel weird now.
Just two weeks ago everything was normal for me. We walked to school in the mornings then I played with my buddies at the dog park. I love to run and play and will greet every single person I meet like they are a long lost relative.
The doctors say that I need to stay in my crate and rest (and take the horrible medicine) for 4-6 weeks to see if I can learn to walk again. And they do a lot of exercises with me. I’m healing, but it’s a lot of work to reconnect my nerves and learn how to walk again.
My family has paid over $5,000 for my treatment so far and my weekly bills for care and physiotherapy are very expensive.
And to make things harder, my mom has a severe disability that affects her back, nerves, and mobility. She is in lots of pain and can’t lift me or help me with my bathroom breaks or physiotherapy.
But they haven’t given up on me! I’m getting better every day with lots of help from friends, family, and hired help.
You see, at the vet hospital they call me the Miracle Dog. When my paralysis went into the most severe stage (stage 5), I only had about a 5-10% chance of regaining feeling or movement in my back end.
Guess what? I’m in that 5-10%! I can now feel my feet and even wag my tail! Which means maybe I could even walk again one day.
My family loves me and wants me to walk again, or at least see how much I can do on my own. I could have a good life with a wheelchair too, as long as we make some adjustments to the house.
Any support you can give helps keep me with my family and helps with my physiotherapy and care. It’s a long road but we want to stay together and have hope that I will run and play again soon.
